In the 3rd quarter of 2019, Saginaw Future Inc. (SFI) assisted ten projects resulting in more than $27 million in new investment that is expected to create and retain 225 jobs. In addition, 13 regional companies won 48 government contracts valued at nearly $12 million.
DayTwo is a microbiome-based, personalized nutrition solution with a focus on the remission of type 2 diabetes. It recently secured $31 million in financing to scale its US operations to address chronic health conditions. SFI has been assisting the company in establishing a local presence to provide services as a pilot project in Saginaw and the Great Lakes Bay Region. The business uses food-as-medicine and is clinically proven to enable the remission of type 2 diabetes. It provides personalized medical nutrition therapy to enable the normalization of blood sugar levels based on an individual’s unique personal and clinical parameters including their gut microbiome profile. DayTwo is expected to have between 6 and 10 employees depending upon the number of area organizations that participate in their pilot project.
CMU Health has nationally-recognized physicians, trains residents and provides patient care across its health care system.  CMU Health builds regional capacity, provides patient-centered care and provides community solutions through partnerships with Covenant HealthCare, Ascension St. Mary’s Hospital, Aleda E. Lutz VA Medical Center, Great Lakes Bay Health Centers and HealthSource Saginaw. Over the past three years, it has grown from 25 physicians to 65 and the number of residents has increased from 90 to 121. CMU Health’s operating budget has also increased 80% and the organization added $600,000 in simulation equipment over the past twelve months. SFI has assisted CMU Health with data, quality of life material and other information used in recruiting physicians.
Ascension St. Mary's Hospital held a groundbreaking for its $17.6 million Emergency Center expansion that will add 12,600 sq. ft., renovate existing space and improve ambulance and public access. These enhancements will transform the facility into a level II trauma care center with 24 treatment rooms and two state-of-the-art trauma rooms. SFI and the City of Saginaw worked with St. Mary’s on infrastructure and planning requirements. 
B&P Littleford invested $800,000 in building improvements, including a new parking lot, boiler and added warehousing at the former SMS building in City of Saginaw.  The company hired 18 new employees. SFI, the City of Saginaw, the Saginaw County Land Bank, the USEPA, and EGLE all partnered to execute a roughly $1 million Super Fund cleanup of the former Baker Perkins industrial complex, which is adjacent to the Company. The Land sold a portion of the remediated parcel to B&P for its expansion. 
A Redevelopment Grant from the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy will be applied towards a contaminated property in the City of Saginaw that will later be redeveloped. The Saginaw Downtown Development Authority was awarded a $249,000 Brownfield Redevelopment Grant to revitalize and safely reuse a vacant parcel at 2040 N. Michigan Ave.
Valerie’s Downtown will be located at the former Wally’s in Downtown Saginaw. It was recently purchased by a new owner, who also acquired the building. The restaurant and second floor apartments are being remodeled with an investment of $215,000. Valerie’s retained three employees and added three new employees. The restaurant will open on October 29th.
Lawn Doctor & SecureCom will both be located at the former Central Insulated Glass building at 6739 Dixie Hwy. in Bridgeport Charter Township. Owner of both companies, Mark Wolinski, invested $700,000 in the building and improvements, locate 12 employees at the site and add five to 20 employees over the next few years. Securecom will be a satellite office. Saginaw Future is also assisting him with a third potential business and a product that is in development.  
Great Lakes Natural Remedies invested $6 million to renovate 3435 Sheridan Rd. in Spaulding Township. The first phase calls for renovations to half of the over 60,000 sq. ft. facility. Once complete the building will house 15,000 cannabis plants, a processing lab and a provisioning center. The company plans to create 50 jobs and Saginaw Future facilitated discussions with local officials.
Roosevelt House of Michigan, LLC (TRH) is a state licensed long term alternative for senior adults who require assistance with daily living that opened in Hemlock this September. TRH owners invested nearly $1.2 million and estimate that they will create 22 new jobs. SFI assisted the company by coordinating a Great Lakes Bay Michigan Works! meeting to apply for a Going Pro job training grant. Saginaw Future PTAC assisted 13 regional companies attain 48 government contracts in the first quarter worth nearly $12 million. Impacted industries include medical device manufacturing, electrical installation and construction. The SFI Procurement Technical Assistance Center (PTAC) provides free assistance to companies interested in federal, state and local government contracts.
Sweeney Metalworking is located in Bridgeport Charter Township and has provided over 30 years of detail machining and stamping services.  The company is adding nearly 5,000 sq. ft. to its existing facility and currently employs 12 people. Sweeney Metalworking expects to create two new jobs as a result of the expansion. SFI assisted the company and the community with a real property tax incentive.
