In the 3rd quarter of 2018, Saginaw Future Inc. (SFI) directly assisted seven projects resulting in more than $49 million in new investment that is expected to create and retain 78 jobs. In addition, 16 regional companies won 112 government contracts valued at nearly $12.6 million.

SAGINAW CONTROL & ENGINEERING
will break ground next spring on a 142,000 sq. ft. facility in the Great Lakes Tech Park - a Michigan Certified Business Park. The project includes office, production and warehouse space, and state-of-the-art equipment. Since 1963, Saginaw Control & Engineering (SCE) has been manufacturing both standard and custom electrical enclosures. The company headquarters and its 310,000 sq. ft. manufacturing facility will remain in Saginaw Charter Township. That site is completely built out and landlocked, which required the Tech Park location. SCE expects to create 35 jobs over the next five years and is sizing infrastructure to support potential expansions. The Michigan Economic Development Corporation, Economic Development Corporation of the County of Saginaw, Thomas Township and SFI supported the project’s development with site preparation, free land and a tax incentive.

TURN ONE
builds steering systems for NASCAR and since 1997 has supplied steering products for 28 of the past 57 NASCAR Champions.
According to management, 2017 was Turn One’s best year ever and 2018 is on track to maintain this level. The company recently purchased new equipment that will help the company in-source component production. Turn One invested $176,000 and will locate a 5 axis Haas machine at Intricate Machine – dba Eagle Machine, which is a newly established Frankenmuth company that will do work for them. Haas will provide some hardware training, but not software. SFI facilitated a follow-up meeting with Great Lakes Bay Michigan Works! for the companies to apply for training grants. Turn One employs five people and expects to hire an additional employee this year.

Saginaw Villas located in Buena Vista Charter Township, was recently purchased by B&B Management Group out of Salt Lake City, Utah. The company plans to invest $15 million in new park housing over the next five years. SFI facilitated introductions to the township,
Michigan State Housing Development Authority, Saginaw County Consortium of Homeless Assistance Providers and the Saginaw Housing Commission.

A & B Equipment & Sons, Inc.
is a family owned and operated laundry and dry cleaning equipment distributor.
Since 1975, the company has employed state licensed boiler installers and refrigeration technicians who service and install equipment all across Michigan, northern Indiana and northern Ohio.
A & B acquired 911 Veterans Memorial Parkway in the City of Saginaw. The company has estimated improvements of $500,000 in the 21,000 sq. ft. facility.

Charles Lee Mansion
located at 633 S. Washington in Downtown Saginaw, is being restored by Ann Arbor Builders, Inc.
Renovations are expected to be completed by July 2019 and the building will provide commercial office space. The historic building will undergo a complete renovation. Ann Arbor Builders expect that at least 40 tradespeople will be employed during the project and renovation costs are approximately $200,000.

DTE Energy
has spent $5.43 million in Saginaw County so far this year and anticipates increasing spending over the next five years as the company’s plans for potential future wind development to move forward. To date, DTE has paid more than $500,000 to property owners who have entered into easement agreements. SFI is working with local municipalities and DTE on site location and project development.

W. Soule & Co.
provides custom fabrication of a multitude of alloys including stainless steel, carbon steel and special alloys. Headquartered in Portage Michigan, W. Soule has locations across Michigan and central Florida including in James Township. The company needed space to expand manufacturing, so office operations were relocated to Saginaw Charter Township. W. Soule invested $150,000 and added seven jobs.

Saginaw Future PTAC
assisted 16 regional companies attain 112 government contracts in the third quarter worth nearly $12.6 million.
Impacted industries include construction, medical device manufacturing and specialty manufacturing. The SFI Procurement Technical Assistance Center provides free assistance to companies interested in federal, state and local government contracts.
