Saginaw, Mich., part of the Great Lakes Bay Region, February 23, 2018 Saginaw Future Inc. (SFI) celebrated its 26TH ANNUAL AWARDS Luncheon and another year of economic development in Saginaw County at the
Bavarian Inn Lodge
. The event was attended by more than 400 business and community leaders.
Saginaw Future honored 35 developments announced in 2017 valued at nearly $171 million that will create and retain more than 1,400 jobs. These projects represent significant growth in manufacturing and service industries and continued investment in communities throughout Saginaw County. In addition to the Economic Excellence Awards, Kapex Manufacturing was selected as the
Saginaw Future Procurement Technical Assistance Center
Contractor of the Year.
“Exciting development is taking place throughout Saginaw County, resulting in 376,000 square feet in expansions and new construction,” said Saginaw Future Inc. 2017 Chairman Patrick Curry. “We are seeing growth in diverse industry sectors, from health care and agribusiness to higher education and manufacturing. And our area manufacturers continue to diversify their customer base by expanding into new markets, such as aerospace, medical devices and automated vehicles.”
The ANNUAL AWARDS Luncheon featured projects that will help support a developing economy.
“This progress in Saginaw County and the Great Lakes Bay Region points to a healthy and growing economy that brings new challenges to economic development, such as a need for additional workers," said Saginaw Future Inc. President JoAnn Crary. "We are launching a new regional Talent Attraction Initiative, working with economic development colleagues and our educational leaders to ensure a pipeline of highly skilled workers for the future.”
The Luncheon featured speaker was Doug Rothwell,
President & CEO of
Business Leaders for Michigan
. He highlighted the growth and development statewide, as Michigan strives to be a
“Top Ten” state for jobs, personal income and a healthy economy.
