In the 2nd quarter of 2016, Saginaw Future Inc. (SFI) directly assisted seven projects resulting in more than $6.5 million in new investment that is expected to create and retain more than 280 jobs. In addition, 14 regional companies won 169 government contracts valued at more than $4.6 million.

Cathedral of Mary of the Assumption
announced plans for a major restoration project at 615 Hoyt St., Saginaw. The project, which will rely mostly upon local contractors, is estimated to cost $3.5 million. It is being funded by generous donors throughout the diocese. The work to be completed at the 115 year old church includes air conditioning, new flooring, a complete renovation of the basement, mechanical and electrical upgrades, interior and exterior lighting upgrades, interior plastering and artistic painting, refurbishing of the stained glass windows, improved restrooms and parking lot improvements.

Unique Instruments, a subsidiary of Orchid Solutions, LLC
plans to add new production lines at its Bridgeport Charter Township location to manufacture single use surgical cutting instruments.
The project is expected to generate $5 million in new investment and create 30 jobs, supported by a $105,000 Michigan Business Development Program performance-based grant. Michigan was chosen over a competing site in California. In addition to assistance from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, SFI is working with Bridgeport and Unique to explore infrastructure improvements and job training support.

Wieland Trucks Inc.
is headquartered in Buena Vista Charter Township and has additional locations in Bay City and Clare. The company has over 80 employees and sells new and used trucks, provides services and has a custom fabrication shop that builds accessories. Wieland is investing over $1 million in a two-story office to house its sales, administrative offices, retail parts, service counter and display area. It will also add 5,000 sq. ft. of storage. The expansion will allow the company to gain three service bays and is expected to add three to four Buena Vista jobs and another three to four in the region.

Midwest Manufacturing is a Saginaw concrete plant owned by Menard Inc. and located at 1808 Veterans Memorial Parkway. Menard has operated the facility since 2011 and is constructing a 40,000 sq. ft. addition, which began this spring and is expected to be complete this year. Midwest produces concrete blocks for construction and landscaping, and the expansion will provide distribution services for other types of merchandise. The City of Saginaw and SFI have a close relationship with the company and support its continued growth.

Erie Custom Signs
has expanded to 12 full-time employees consisting of an art, finishing, and shipping and receiving departments since 2009. Erie provides a variety of signs and specializes in interior Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant signage. In 2010 the company produced its first Braille sign and prides itself on the ability to fill orders from a single sign to an entire hotel. Erie recently purchased the former Celebrations Hall on 1017 S. Wheeler St. in the City of Saginaw, which will allow for growth and future expansion. Saginaw Future worked with the City to help with site location, zoning, building inspection, and property tax assessment.

Hehr International and Hehr Glass
are in the process of installing new equipment for the production of RV industry insulated glass. Customers are seeking specialty glass to help with insulation from outside sound. To date, $500,000 was invested at Hehr International and $60,000 at Hehr Glass. Engineering is being brought in-house from California and additional space is needed for a longer glass line to produce higher quantities of the insulated glass. SFI will continue to work with the company and the Village of Chesaning to support future expansion.

Morley Companies, Inc.
continues to add positions as part of a recent contract award that includes opening a contact center in Greenville, South Carolina. The opportunity allows Morley to grow its 153-year old business in Saginaw while creating a new center that supports its client’s need to operate close to facilities in South Carolina. As one of the largest employers in Saginaw County and the Great Lakes Bay Region, Morley Companies is adding 130 jobs in Saginaw Township for a total of 250 new hires projected in 2016. Morley employs 2,500 associates who serve Fortune 500 global clients. Morley’s global headquarters campus encompasses 400,000 square feet of facilities on 25 acres.

1720 Norman St., City of Saginaw - move in ready
manufacturing facility for sale! The more than 38,000 sq. ft. building is adjacent to a rail yard, two miles from I-75 and two miles from seaport access. Built in 2004, 1720 Norman is made of block and metal with 20 foot ceiling clearances.
