In the 2nd quarter of 2019, Saginaw Future Inc. (SFI) assisted nine projects resulting in nearly $18.5 million in new investment that is expected to create and retain 172 jobs. In addition, 11 regional companies won 23 government contracts valued at nearly $5.3 million.
Blue Thumb Distributing Inc. is a leading water feature manufacturer and molder that purchased 2650 Schust Rd. in Saginaw Charter Township. Saginaw Future is assisting the company and the community with transferring a $1.72 million rehabilitation certificate that was previously approved for the site. The company is also making improvements that include building out walls and office space, replacing the windows in the building and warehouse improvements. The total project investment is approximately $2.7 million, including purchase of the building. The company expects to create 10 plus jobs as a result of their new project. Blue Thumb manufactures products to help design, install and maintain water features including all products for fountains, ponds, pondless waterfalls and formal falls.  
McNally-Nimergood Co. is a leading crane rental, rigging, heavy haul, and lifting service provider throughout Michigan and headquartered in Bridgeport.  The company is currently constructing a 12,000 plus sq. ft. facility that will serve as its new maintenance garage and operations offices with a total investment of approximately $1 million. The work is being performed by all local contractors, further enhancing the local economic impact. In the past four years alone, the company has invested more than $13 million in new cranes and equipment to support its growing operations, including the largest mobile crane in the Eastern United States – a 900-ton mobile hydraulic crane. In addition, the company has also created seven new full-time skilled trade jobs over the duration. 
Ackerman Marketing was founded 19 years ago by Star of the West retiree Lyle Ackerman. Lyle was born and raised on the farm and has been in the agriculture industry throughout his lifetime. Ackerman works with small and large dry bean processors in Michigan and across the U.S. to market dry beans. They are a trading house for dry beans and provide to Canneries across the U.S. Kevin Ackerman began with his father’s business four years ago and has helped the business grow to six employees, with plans to add two more employees this year. Ackerman Marketing recently constructed a new building on Franklin St. in the City of Frankenmuth, investing over $350,000.
Bu ena Vista Charter Township took proactive steps to declare the former Welcome Inn as a danger in order to demolish buildings on site.  The Saginaw County Brownfield Redevelopment Authority, which is administered by SFI, approved a brownfield plan and a $200,000 loan request. The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy also approved an assessment grant. There are no specific plans for the site, however the Township could recapture costs once a development occurs. Removing the blight is a huge step forward in community improvement. Total costs are estimated at nearly $400,000.
Beattie Master Pool and Spa has provided over 60 years of experience in design, construction and service to Mid-Michigan. Aaron and his wife Jane Beattie started the company in 1959, which is now in its third generation of ownership. Recently Beattie invested $100,000 and employs 25 people. The company provides in and above ground pools, spas, pool products and maintenance services.  
R.A. Monk Insurance Agency  was founded in 1967 by Rick A. Monk and has expanded over the years serving Bridgeport, Frankenmuth and areas throughout the State of Michigan. Recently, Rick welcomed his son, Ryan to the business and is constructing a new office building on Franklin St. in the City of Frankenmuth. The business will invest $400,000 in the project and retain five jobs.
Gateway Financial Solutions is part of Garber Management Group and provides financing options for customers of over 350 franchise and independent dealers in 16 states.  The company has been in operation since 1996 and is experiencing substantial growth. Gateway Financial Solutions expanded its offices at 999 S. Washington Ave. in the City of Saginaw, which now total 30,000 sq. ft. The company invested $450,000, added 35 jobs, and now have 201 employees. For career opporunities go to
MI International Prep School is a statewide Cyber Charter School that will open a tutorial and counseling center at 2715 State St. in the City of Saginaw. The school plans to invest $60,000 in renovations and hire three full-time staff. SFI provided planning and zoning process assistance, helped to secure an easement for the project and a shared parking agreement.
Remer Plumbing, Heating & Air was founded in 1957 and has 85 employees. Remer provides products and services through two divisions. The Commercial Division serves industrial and commercial construction projects, and an adjacent building was purchased and renovated to house it. The Residential Division provides plumbing, heating and cooling products to regional customers.
Saginaw Future PTAC assisted 11 regional companies attain 23 government contracts in the first quarter worth nearly $5.3 million. Impacted industries include defense, medical transportation and construction. The SFI Procurement Technical Assistance Center (PTAC) provides free assistance to companies interested in federal, state and local government contracts.
