Sahuaro District Weekly Update

Dear Sahuaro Residents,

I would like to extend a special thank you to the members and the support staff of the city's Code Review Council Committee, which concluded 2 1/2 years of work this week. The Code Review Council Committee was tasked by the Glendale City Council to review the city code and recommend changes to enhance and strengthen the city's rules, laws, and enforcement aimed at improving quality of life and safety in our city. I am happy to report that we made considerable progress in this effort.

The Code Review Council Committee made recommendations that improve upon regulations related to street parking, front yard parking, landscape maintenance, noise disturbances, littering, temporary fencing, court ordered abatement, and more. As these recommendations are implemented, the City Council will continue to follow-up on oversight responsibilities to review the effectiveness of the improved regulations and propose modifications if needed as they arise.

Sahuaro District News & Citywide Information

The Department of Defense’s Office of Local Defense Community Cooperation (OLDCC) is asking for community input on the noise associated with military fixed-wing aircraft. OLDCC’s Community Noise Mitigation initiative is focused on understanding the needs of areas with high-noise traffic “to develop a program that may then support noise mitigation actions by these communities.”

DOD is seeking input from communities near 205 installations, INCLUDING LUKE AIR FORCE BASE in Glendale, AZ. Community members can share feedback through a custom form.

Community Noise Mitigation

Community Noise Mitigation is an initiative being undertaken as a result of recently enacted Appropriations language to understand noise mitigation needs of communities experiencing 65 decibel or louder noise, and to develop a program that may then support noise mitigation actions by these communities.

Live Music at Murphy Park

There will be live music in Historic Downtown Glendale during the month of October with the excitement of LiVE! @ Murphy Park. These free performances will take place at Murphy Park’s Amphitheatre, Thursday – Saturday from 7-9 p.m. Plan a date night or meet your friends and experience the downtown businesses and local music scene under the stars.
