Dear Sahuaro Residents,
There have been some questions asked about the economic benefit of the VAI resort. This newsletter will attempt to address that question.
For more than one hundred years the 50-acre site where the VAI resort is located has operated as a farm. As late as 2019 the property paid less than $2,000 per year in property taxes.
Contrast this amount to the economic fiscal impact study conducted by Applied Economics. Their economists stated that once fully operational, this site will generate an estimated $80 million dollars per year in new tax revenue including an estimated $32 million directly paid to the City of Glendale and approximately $48 million will be paid to the State, County, school districts and others.
Additionally, the developer will pay an estimated $25 million in one-time payments to Glendale for permit fees, inspection fees, development impact fees and construction sales taxes. These revenues will provide funds for our Police and Fire departments, streets, parks, libraries, and public infrastructure which are all free services provided to our residents.
The development of VAI Resort will create more than 1,800 new jobs for Glendale and have a far-reaching economic benefit for the region. VAI Resort will host top artists with more than 100 events annually. The unique concept and combination of attractions is slated to put the state of Arizona and city of Glendale on an international travelers' list.
