Sahuaro District Weekly Update

Dear Sahuaro Residents,

This week during city budget workshop, the City Council reviewed bond money priorities. Over the next several years the City Council has bond authority to fund approximately $8 million in park and recreation improvements, but will need additional public bond approval for years 2023-2031. Our ten year park bond improvement will require nearly $100 million to bring our parks up to standard and to build out the Heroes Regional Park.

Also, we are currently accepting applications for our new Sahuaro District neighborhood beautification grant program. Please, see below for details.

Maricopa County Launches

New Vaccine Finder

Maricopa County has made the COVID-19 vaccine available for individuals aged 65 years and older. The county has also launched a new vaccine finder so you can easily find an appointment near you.

Slots fill up quickly so we encourage you to look for a vaccine appointment as soon as possible.

New Grant Opportunity

Sahuaro District - Neighborhood Beautification Grant

Based on public input last year, Councilmember Malnar had the opportunity to allocate funds toward improvement projects throughout the Sahuaro District. Those projects included:

Due to budget savings within Councilmember Malnar's office this year, more funds can be allocated toward neighborhood improvement projects in the Sahuaro district.

To complement efforts from last year, Councilmember Malnar has added an opportunity within this year's grant for landscape rock for residential front yard beautification. This is in addition to the opportunity to recommend a project to improve local City of Glendale parks, medians, right of ways, and other city properties within the Sahuaro District.

Are you a small business in need of financial assistance because

of COVID-19?

The City of Glendale

may be able to help!

The city of Glendale and Prestamos CDFI, a division of Chicanos Por La Causa, join forces to leverage capacity and outreach to enhance funding and technical support to small businesses with a new relief program. The Glendale Pandemic Response Small Business Assistance Program will help small-business owners experiencing hardships related to COVID-19 pandemic with grants of up to $25,000.

The grants will be available on a first-come, first-served basis and are intended for for-profit microenterprise businesses with five or fewer employees (including owners) within the city limits of Glendale that have been negatively impacted by the pandemic.

50th Avenue between Cholla Street to Sunnyside Drive – Crack sealing to take place in late February to prepare for a Latex Modified Surface Seal (LMSS) application to take place early Spring 2021.
