This year's Brain Bee will take place virtually on Wednesday, March 3. It will begin at 5 p.m. and will include both semifinal and final rounds. As COVID-19 continues to affect our residents, staff has been working to provide updated information and resources that will benefit both our community at large and those impacted by the pandemic. We have created Community Connections to help those impacted by the coronavirus find resources and support and match those who are able to help with volunteer opportunities and other ways to support our community. We will continue to update this page as new information is received. Please visit the Community Connections webpage for more information on available resources, how you can give back to the community, and how you can help prevent the spread of coronavirus.

Arizona Together is an initiative to support Arizonans during the COVID-19 outbreak, connecting individuals and businesses to resources, raising money for community organizations and providing information on volunteer opportunities. Visit arizonatogether.org to find help or provide support.
The City of Glendale Community Action Program provides direct financial assistance for those households that are eligible. The Glendale Community Action Program administers the following financial assistance programs for people that are experiencing a temporary crisis resulting in a loss of income or increased expenses making it difficult to meet basic needs.  Each program has multiple funding sources with various income eligibility requirements. Our eligibility specialists will review your circumstances against all possible programs. 
 
Monthly rental assistance may be available to households who have had a substantial reduction in income due to COVID-19. For more information on eligibility requirements and how to apply, visit COVID-19 Assistance Programs.
 
The Arizona Department of Housing Save Our Home AZ (“SOHAZ”) Program offers Principal Reduction Assistance, Monthly Mortgage Subsidy Assistance for under and unemployed Arizonans and Second Lien Elimination Assistance to qualified Arizona homeowners. To see if you might be eligible for assistance through the SOHAZ Program or to begin an application for assistance click on the link for information housing.az.gov/save-our-home.

What's happening at the Glendale Public Library
Bring the Internet Home with a Hotspot from the Glendale Public Library
Does your family need to use the internet at home, but you don’t have access? Try our new hotspot collection at the Glendale Public Library! These portable wireless devices provide a free high-speed internet connection with unlimited data for your Wi-Fi-accessible laptop, tablet, or phone anywhere Sprint coverage is available.

The library’s 48 portable hotspots are housed at Main and Velma Teague Library, but are holdable at any of our four locations. To check out a hotspot, you’ll need to be at least 18 years old, show a photo ID and a Glendale Public Library card, and complete a checkout agreement at one of our Public Service Desks. Only one hotspot per household at a time is allowed. Hotspots check out for three weeks and cannot be renewed. Your internet usage will not be tracked by the library or the hotspot.

  • 55th Avenue, between Cholla Street and Cactus Road – Slurry Seal application was originally scheduled to take place in December but has been postponed to Spring 2021 due to excessively cool morning temperatures predicted when work was originally scheduled to take place.

  • Streets between Peoria Avenue and Cholla Street, between the Arizona Canal and 51st Avenue – Crack sealing to begin January 15 to prepare for a Latex Modified Surface Seal (LMSS) application to take place early Spring 2021.

  • Streets between Thunderbird Road and Acoma Drive, between 51st Avenue and 55th Avenue – Crack sealing to begin January 18 to prepare for a Polymer Modified Surface Seal (PMSS) application to take place Spring 2021.

  • 50th Avenue between Cholla Street to Sunnyside Drive – Crack sealing to take place late January to prepare for a Latex Modified Surface Seal (LMSS) application to take place early Spring 2021.

  • Sunnyside Drive, between 50th Avenue and 51st Avenue – Crack sealing to take place late January to prepare for a Latex Modified Surface Seal (LMSS) application to take place early Spring 2021.

  • Streets from north of Cactus Road to Sweetwater Avenue, west of 51st Avenue to Columbine Drive – Crack sealing to begin this Winter to prepare for a Slurry Seal application to take place Spring 2021.

  • 75th Avenue, between Bell Road and Union Hills Drive – Crack sealing to begin this Winter to prepare for a Polymer Modified Surface Seal (PMSS) application to take place late Spring 2021.

  • 75th Avenue frontage Road, south of Grovers Avenue – Crack sealing to begin this Winter to prepare for a Polymer Modified Surface Seal (PMSS) application to take place late Spring 2021.
