Greetings!

On Friday, August 22nd, the Guam Legislature voted 11 - 4 in favor of the FY2026 budget bill that included a 0.5% rollback of the business privilege tax (BPT) effective October 1, 2025, followed by another 0.5% rollback effective October 1, 2026, ultimately reducing the BPT to 4%. This is a significant step forward for our island businesses, and we sincerely thank everyone who reached out to senators, shared our Chamber statements, and voiced support for this critical relief. Upon receipt, Governor Leon Guerrero will have ten (10) days to act on the bill.

A few Japanese naval vessels will visit our island this weekend. Like last week's visit from the USS George Washington, this trip will be a liberty stop for the Japanese servicemen. Let's wish our visiting guests a warm Hafa Adai and make them feel at home during their time here on Guam!

The Maritime Affairs Committee (MAC) is seeking feedback from you on how the proposed Port tariff adjustment may affect your operations. To gather your insights, the Maritime Affairs Committee (MAC) has prepared a brief survey. We encourage you to take just a few minutes to respond. Your input will directly help the Chamber shape its testimony before the Public Utilities Commission.

Our next general membership meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, August 27th, featuring guest speaker Sheri D. Fejeran, Executive Director of the Guam Association of Realtors. Ms. Fejeran will share insights on the real estate industry and its role in Guam's economic landscape. This promises to be an engaging and informative meeting. Please scroll down for details. I look forward to seeing you there! Enjoy your weekend!

Onward Together,

Catherine Castro

President

The Chamber's Maritime Affairs Committee would like to hear from you on how the proposed Port's tariff adjustments petition, should it be approved, will impact your company. Why it matters: The guide breaks down key provisions of the law, including permanent deductions, enhanced credits, and expanded eligibility criteria—giving small businesses the tools they need to thrive.

Be smart: Small business owners can start claiming these tax breaks now, even for expenses dating back to January 20, 2025.
