Happy Solemnity of All Saints Day! Yesterday we celebrated a wonderful All-Hallow’s Eve at school. The weather cooperated again for us this year, so we were able to have our parade outside. It was nice to see so many parents, grandparents, friends, and family join in the celebration. After the parade the remaining half-day was filled with classroom parties, Saints stories in the gym, spooky science experiments with buddies in the cafeteria, and much more! A big shout out to our teachers who prepared all the festive activities! Thank you to the 8^th grade students who read their saint biographies to their fellow students. Also, thank you to all our wonderful volunteers who made the day a special one.

Today, at the conclusion of Mass our students revealed their classroom saint. Each classroom was asked to choose a saint to represent them and their classroom this school year. Each classroom had a student representative (or two) come forward and announce to the congregation whom they chose, why, what their feast day is, and what their saint is the patron of – well done super Star Sailor students!

As you know, the first quarter ended today, which means report cards and parent/teacher conferences are upon us. Remember the report cards will be emailed on Wednesday 11/6. You will also receive a hard copy of your son/daughter STAR beginning of the year assessment report. Please make sure to sign it and have it returned to their teacher. Conferences will follow on Thursday, 11/7. If you haven’t signed up yet, please do so below on the Sign-Up Genius. No school on Friday, 11/8. Also, this week we will be hosting our annual Scholastic Book Fair! Thank you, Mrs. Walter and Mrs. Takach for organizing.

Leftover Halloween Candy?

Star’s Girl Scout Troop #76233 will be collecting leftover wrapped Halloween candy and treats to donate to the Motor City Mitten Mission. MCMM will use the leftover candy for their food kits that they distribute to the homeless and food insecure families. Please drop off wrapped candy donations to the Star school office Friday 11/1 through Friday 11/15.

Scholastic Book Fair

Get ready—the Scholastic Book Fair is coming to our school! This is a great opportunity to connect with your child over the thrill of bringing home new books to dive into again and again. Studies show that kids read more when they choose books for themselves. And fostering a love of independent reading leads to a wide variety of benefits—including academic success and improved mental health.

Here’s everything you need to know about the Book Fair:

Dates: November 4-7, 2024 and at conferences

Location: Library

Family Event schedule and location: After School Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday until 3:45 for parents and parishoners.

Parent - Teacher Conferences

Conferences begin from 1:00- 3:00 PM and 4:00 - 7:00 PM.

PreK - 2nd Grade conferences will take place in their classrooms. 3rd - 8th Grade conferences will take place in the gym. Specials will be in their classrooms.

This will be a half day for students. Dismissal times: PreK-Kindergarten dismissed at 11:00 AM. 1st - 8th Grade dismissed at 12:00 PM.

Sign ups for grades PreK - 5th Grade are below. Middle School will not have sign ups - you can just come to the gym to see your student's teacher.

Stock the Lounge - November

We love our teachers, and we are so grateful for their commitment to caring for our kids acadmeic, social, emotional, and physcil needs. To show our thanks, PTO would love provide monthly treats for their lounge. For the month of November, we invite preschool famillies to supply the snacks. Each year we participate in a fundraiser called Scrip. This allows you to buy gift cards (whether for holiday gifts or future shopping) and proceeds go back to benefit Star. Below is an order form - download it and return it to the front office.

General Office Helper in the Parish Office Here's a few things you need to know:

Part-time (20 hours per week)
Clerical tasks - data entry, copying, filing, mailing. Should have strong computer skills, and the ability to multitask.
Front desk management: Greeting visitors, answering and directing phone calls, handling emails and mail
and more!
