-BARKER'S BULLETIN-
Greetings,
Happy Friday! And happy feast day of “Our Lady Star of the Sea!” That’s correct, September 27th is the feast of our school’s namesake. The name has been around for over a thousand years. Our Lady Star of the Sea shares the same feast day with another well known, popular saint – St. Vincent de Paul, which is probably why most Catholics are unaware that today we celebrate the feast of Stella Maris (the Latin form for Our Lady Star of the Sea).
We recognized the feast today during morning prayer and announcements, as well as during Mass. In honor of St. Vincent de Paul, we were blessed to have some of the De La Salle Collegiate students visit us for a Christian day of service to the community. We are grateful to Sr. Kathleen Matz who led the charge, and to all the adult chaperones, and students who did some work for Star in and around campus. Thank you, Pilots!
I can’t believe that we have come to the end of September already. October is a busy month. This coming week please keep our 6th graders, the parent chaperones, and our teachers in your prayers as they are off to visit Camp Storge from Wednesday through Friday. Preschool 4 and Young 5’s will be off to field trips this week as well. Fr. Brian Meldrum will be here to celebrate Mass on Friday, Oct. 4th for the school. Speaking of October 4th, it is the feast day of St. Francis of Assisi and there will be a blessing of the pets at 6:30 pm under the canopy for those interested.
How about them Detroit Tigers!?! Very exciting to be the hottest team in baseball and making the playoffs since I can’t remember when. I’m sure we will have a Tigers dress down day at some point during the playoffs to celebrate their success.
I’m looking forward to seeing you tomorrow evening at the Fall Fest! We are prepped for weather just in case. Keep those prayers going for good weather so we can be outside instead of the gym.
In closing, I pray you have a safe and restful weekend.
God Bless,
Mr. Barker
