The Kids Heart Challenge is Here!
|
|
Start Date: The week of February 6th
Activities in PE Class: The week of February 13th.
Donations Due: February 24th
Hello families! We are excited to be participating in the Kids Heart Challenge program! Through our partnership with the American Heart Association, students will learn about their hearts, take part in cardio-pumping challenges and they can commit to their heart health by taking the AHA’s online Health Challenge. They will also help raise funds to help kids with special hearts and make all communities healthier. Plus, our school can earn PE equipment and direct givebacks. Please view the below Informational Video with your student.
The heart of this program is to engage students about their overall wellbeing…When registering online, please consider taking the Personal Health Challenge to; Be Kind or Be Active. It is our goal to have ½ of our school take the health challenge. If we reach it and raise $500 for the AHA, they will provide us with an additional $500 in gift certificates to purchase wellness equipment for our school! Each student will receive a heart hero wristband just for registering and taking the challenge. Plus, the class in (PreK-2nd, 3rd-5th and 6th-8th) with the highest % of students taking the challenge will also receive a recess kit for the class and CREW Heart Hero keychains for the students. Lastly, if we reach our health challenge goal, the first class to have all its students take the health challenge will get to silly string myself and another teacher!
HELP OUR SCHOOL MAKE AN IMPACT TODAY! Everything can be done easily online with the Kids Heart Challenge Mobile App or by going to www.heart.org/khc. Families may also send in a check donation in an envelope to the school by February 24th. Checks should be made payable to the American Heart Association. Please have your students name, grade and homeroom teacher on the envelope.
We understand that every family may not be able to donate, but all students will enjoy (and learn from) the resources/activities and can share information about heart disease with your family and community. I hope your students have fun with this year’s Kids Heart Challenge!

Lent is all about repenting of our sinful habits and changing our ways. The main article on page one suggests concrete ways to encourage children to practice the virtues of patience, kindness, honesty, and obedience. By doing this, we cultivate those virtues in ourselves.
The mediation feature on page one addresses the secret fear of many Catholic parents, that their children will leave the Faith. Fortunately, statistics show children who grow up praying are more likely to stay Catholic. Cultivating a regular prayer life early on, nourished by the Sacraments, is key to keeping youngsters Catholic.
Lent isn’t just about kicking bad health habits but growing in holiness. The Parent Talk feature on page two gives easy, meaningful ideas for prayer, penance and almsgiving for the whole family, making for a spiritually fruitful Lent and a truly joyful Easter.

Partners in Faith offers a Lenten calendar for faith-filled activities for every day of Lent. See the calendar attached below!
