December 3, 2023 Edition

Light in the dark.

A very distinctive feature but not exclusive to this season of the year is decorating with lights. I see lights and bulbs and decorations on every corner of the streets. They glow in different sizes, colors and shapes. We love them because they make our homes and communities look amazing. It is the light that strikes us in the dark. We encounter darkness every end of the day and darkness can be scary sometimes. Light dispels the dark and light helps us to see our loved ones.

The season of advent is a season to prepare for the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ. We celebrate Jesus’ birthday on Christmas Day. Jesus is the eternal light who comes from heaven to dispel the darkness of sin, hate, violence, selfishness, and all evil. The light of Christ is one that fills our souls with light, hope, and peace, so that we can live as beloved children of God.

Why does it matter that we prepare our houses and hearts to receive the light of Christ? Because we need Jesus every day of our lives, but most importantly in this season. The theme for our beloved school this year is “ Journeying Together.”

It is not beyond our capacity to imagine what “together” might mean for us. No light is strong enough to shine by itself because darkness can be overwhelming. But when we see these different lights, bulbs, street lights, Christmas lights, flash lights, all shining together, we get a great array of light. When we open our hearts to the light of Christ, we shine not only as individuals but more so as a community of Saint Joseph School. And therefore it is imperative that we think about ways in which we can be delighted and hopeful about the promise of Jesus’ birth on Christmas. Let us pray to Jesus Christ to be our light and our delight.

God Bless,

Let us collectively extend a warm welcome to Mrs. Kanelos as she embarks on this journey with us at Saint Joe's. We are confident that her dedication and skills will greatly benefit our students and contribute to the overall success of our educational community.

SJS Middle School Living Nativity

The middle school students of SJS would like to invite you to the annual Living Nativity on December 15, 2023, at 1:30pm in the Upper Church. This beloved tradition goes back over 25 years. Please join our entire school community in the final event of the calendar year at SJS. It is a beautiful reminder for us all of the true reason we celebrate Christmas.

For today in the city of David a savior has been born for you who is Messiah and Lord. And this will be a sign for you: you will find an infant wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a manger.”  Luke 2:11-12
