Reading Assignment: Introduction and Chapter 1 from our new book The Eucharistic Liturgies: Their Evolution and Interpretation by Paul F. Bradshaw (Author), Maxwell E. Johnson (Author). Bring your questions or comments.

PLEASE DO NOT DELAY IN SENDING YOUR RSVP. THERE WILL BE NO EXCEPTIONS TO THE RSVP CUT OFF DATE SO THAT OUR KITCHEN STAFF CAN PREPARE ENOUGH FOOD

AND

THE DINING ROOM CAN BE PREPARED FOR THE CORRECT AMOUNT OF GUESTS JOINING US.


A $12 meal donation is suggested in order to cover food costs. Please see Kerry before or after lunch as she will be collecting the meal donations. If you wish to prepay by credit card, let Kerry know when you RSVP and she can send you a LINK to pay your meal donation online.

Schedule for the Day, August 27, 2023

10:00 AM: Mass in the Abbey Church


12:00 PM: Sext (Midday Prayer) in the Abbey Church


12:20 PM: Optional Lunch with the Monks in the Refectory

(must RSVP by Tuesday, August 22nd. (see NOTE in above section)


  • Directions to Lunch: Follow the monks through the side door on the right side of the church immediately after Sext.


1:15 PM-2:15 PM: OBLATE LITURGY CLASS with Prior Lucius in the Upper Chapel on the 3rd floor of Saint Leo Hall



2:30 PM-3:30 PM: BENEDICTINE SOCIAL in the Library on the 3rd floor of Saint Leo Hall. Feel free to bring snacks to share.

Directions: Enter Abbey thru the door at the Cloister Walk (east side of Church). Once inside the hallway, make your first right and then an immediate left for the elevator to the 3rd floor. (Press 3 in the elevator). Upon exiting the elevator, the Liturgy Class will be to the right in the Upper Chapel and the Benedictine Circle that follows will be in the Library located down the other end of the 3rd-floor hallway.

LITURGY FACTS

The altar is to be covered with at least one white cloth. In addition, on or next to the altar are to be placed candlesticks with lighted candles: at least two in any celebration, or even four or six, especially for a Sunday Mass or a Holyday of Obligation, or if the Diocesan Bishop celebrates, then seven candlesticks with lighted candles. Likewise, on the altar or close to it, there is to be a cross adorned with a figure of Christ crucified. The candles and the cross with the figure of Christ crucified may also be carried in the procession at the Entrance. On the altar itself may be placed a Book of the Gospels distinct from the book of other readings, unless it is carried in the Entrance Procession.
