The Remarks

Saint Mark United Methodist Church Atlanta, Georgia
March 17, 2021
Just Thinking

It is March and spring is in the air. This Saturday, spring officially arrives, the season of new life, new beginning, and new opportunities. I hope and pray that you will embrace this gift from God, this gift of a new start.

Saint Mark has through this long pandemic of the spring of 2020, summer, fall, and winter continued to do some amazing ministries with our children, youth, small groups, missions and outreach. We have started 2021 with hope in our hearts and continued to ask, “how might we serve our people and our community?” We have in the last two and a half months kept faith and continued to be our best. Due to the dedication of a fantastic staff and amazing laity #SaintMarkStrong has not just been a catch phrase but a way of life.

As we enter this new spring season, I invite you to consider helping us with this small deficit in our weekly giving. We need, each week, $17,178 to meet the goals of keeping #SaintMarkStrong financially and able to do the ministries we are doing in these days. I assure you there is no “fluff” in this budget. We are a working on a very fiscally conservative budget for our church. After two and a half months we are $8, 511 behind our needs to for the ministry and mission of the church. Thank you to all who have been giving sacrificially. I get it, everyone is still trying to find their way in this non-ending pandemic of COVID and so is Saint Mark. As you are able, as God has blessed you, please continue to be good givers to the work of Saint Mark and help us stay strong through 2021. But if you need help, please don’t hesitate to ask for support. We are a family and this is what we do. We are here for you. Thank you for all you do and being a cheerful giver this Lent.

Together we keep #SaintMarkStrong!

Dana

Outreach Donations for March
This month we are focusing on collecting specific toiletry items that people living on the street need that are not widely available to them. We are asking for donations of deodorant, razors, and travel size hand lotion. We would love to be able to offer these items along with other toiletries we have on hand during our food ministry to those who come to be served a meal by our volunteers.

Donations of these specific items can be dropped off at the church office during the week between 10am and 1:30pm (please call 404-873-2636 to confirm staff will be in the office, given our limited staffing for COVID protocols). We will also be collecting these donations at our next 4th Sunday outdoor worship service on Sunday, March 28 at Haygood UMC. For more details, contact Rev. Jennifer at [email protected].
Celebration of Life for Julie Arms Meeks
Please join us for a celebration of life for Julie A. Arms Meeks on Saturday April 17, at 2pm on the steps of Saint Mark. Please dress casually, bring a chair, and remember to mask up and socially distance as we celebrate together. Phillip Thomason will provide the eulogy. Please bring a helium balloon to be released at the end of the celebration. In the event of rain the gathering will be postponed.
Parking Update
Because 5th Street is no longer permanently blocked to traffic, limited parking is available in our 5th Street lot directly behind the church.

If parking in the 5th Street lot is not available, you can also park next door at Redeemer Lutheran Church. The original lot provided for Saint Mark visitors (at the corner of 4th and Peachtree Street, across from the side entrance of Redeemer Lutheran) is now a pay lot ($5 for 2 hours), so parking there is no longer free for Saint Mark. However, free parking is available (with a Saint Mark parking sticker on your car) at a second Redeemer Lutheran church lot across the street from the pay lot, between the Mission House and the entrance to the Lutheran Towers pedestrian bridge that crosses over Juniper.
To follow the latest information and updates from the Task Force, please visit https://www.stmarkumc.org/health-wellness . An update from the Task Force's most recent meeting will be provided next week following the review of the Administrative Council.
