Adult Sunday school begins on Sept. 8
What does the Bible and the church have to say about what is going on in our world and in our nation today? We are fortunate to have Dr. Bill May lead conversations on "Testing the National Covenant: Fears & Appetites in American Politics" for our adult education for September and October. Dr. May will weave in insights from his book of that name and from scripture and the conversation will center on the Bible's response to the world's tendency to fear.

Youth Group kicks off on Sept. 8!
If you are new to Saint Mark or have a rising 6th grader, you are invited to join the Saint Mark youth group! We have a weekly email with our youth group activities where you can get all the info you need and RSVP for our gatherings. If you want to be included on that email, please email our YG communications coordinator Barb Welsh at Expect to be hearing from Pastor Shelby soon too!

SAVE THE DATE: OCTOBER 13 AND 20: Pastoral Conversation

Pastor Roy Howard will be leading a pastoral conversation the Art of Living Well and the Art of Dying Well. It's not as morbid as it may sound to some of you! This will be a good conversation for older and younger members, including those who are facing end of life concerns as well as those who are caring for parents or spouses facing the same. Living Well includes Dying Well. What are your questions about end-of-life that you never get a chance to ask or discuss? Join the conversation with others who likely share the same concerns.

Hosted by Betty and Jerry Lowrie at the Fox Hill residence in Bethesda from 3-4:30 Sunday afternoon.

Contact Pastor Roy to attend and for questions:

Book Lovers 2019-2020 Season starts soon!
The first meeting is Monday, September 9th at 1:00-2:30 in the High School room (109).  Our first book is Pachinko by Min Jin Lee.
A New York Times Top Ten Book of the Year and National Book Award finalist, "Pachinko" is an "extraordinary epic" of four generations of a poor Korean immigrant family as they fight to control their destiny in 20th-century Japan (San Francisco Chronicle).
Richly told and profoundly moving, Pachinko is a story of love, sacrifice, ambition, and loyalty. From bustling street markets to the halls of Japan's finest universities to the pachinko parlors of the criminal underworld, Lee's complex and passionate characters--strong, stubborn women, devoted sisters and sons, fathers shaken by moral crisis--survive and thrive against the indifferent arc of history.
