Pentecost Sunday is Coming
May 23, 2021 is Pentecost Sunday! Please wear red and celebrate by giving a Special Offering that benefits at-risk children and the youth of our church and the world.

You might ask, “What exactly is Pentecost?”  Pentecost is celebrated as the birthday of the Christian church. Pentecost is the day, 50 days after Easter (the name comes from the Greek pentekoste, "fiftieth”), when Jesus’ disciples were given the gift of the Holy Spirit. The story of the gift of the Holy Spirit is set forth in Acts: 2, 1-13. The day the “Holy Spirit”, like wind and fire, entered a room holding Jesus’ apostles and entered into each of them. Pentecost was foretold in the Old Testament in  Joel 2:28-32.  “And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions:” Joel 2:28, KJV.  Pentecost was the start of the church's mission to the world, enabled by the Holy Spirit within each of us.

With special reference to our Saint Mark youth and support for children at risk in our larger world, please celebrate Pentecost Sunday with a Special Offering. The PCUSA link, https://specialofferings.pcusa.org/stories/ provides amazing and inspirational stories of how our Pentecost Offering is used to support our children and youth and the development of their faith.  With the Holy Spirit within you, please go to www.saintmarkpresby.org, “Give Now”, “Peace & Global Witness/Pentecost Offering”. This Special Offering is shared between PCUSA and Saint Mark.
