Pentecost Sunday is Coming
May 23, 2021 is Pentecost Sunday! Please wear red and celebrate by giving a Special Offering that benefits at-risk children and the youth of our church and the world.
You might ask, “What exactly is Pentecost?” Pentecost is celebrated as the birthday of the Christian church. Pentecost is the day, 50 days after Easter (the name comes from the Greek pentekoste, "fiftieth”), when Jesus’ disciples were given the gift of the Holy Spirit. The story of the gift of the Holy Spirit is set forth in Acts: 2, 1-13. The day the “Holy Spirit”, like wind and fire, entered a room holding Jesus’ apostles and entered into each of them. Pentecost was foretold in the Old Testament in Joel 2:28-32. “And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions:” Joel 2:28, KJV. Pentecost was the start of the church's mission to the world, enabled by the Holy Spirit within each of us.
With special reference to our Saint Mark youth and support for children at risk in our larger world, please celebrate Pentecost Sunday with a Special Offering. The PCUSA link, https://specialofferings.pcusa.org/stories/ provides amazing and inspirational stories of how our Pentecost Offering is used to support our children and youth and the development of their faith. With the Holy Spirit within you, please go to www.saintmarkpresby.org, “Give Now”, “Peace & Global Witness/Pentecost Offering”. This Special Offering is shared between PCUSA and Saint Mark.
Sunday worship will take place over Zoom at 10:00 with a prelude beginning at 9:50. The bulletin and information to join the Zoom call will be sent out Saturday afternoon.
Sharing worship information
We are glad to see so many friends and family from across the country joining us for worship! If there is someone you would like to receive the worship information (Zoom invitation and bulletin), please pass along their email to Christina firstname.lastname@example.org so she can add them to the list.
Mission ministry book study Monday evenings 7:00PM- 8:30PM
We are studing "Doing Good.. Says Who?" by Connie Newton and Fran Early. The study is led by Rev. Blair Moorhead.
Rev. Moorhead will incorporate Bible scripture into the study. It will be Monday evenings 7:00-8:30 and will last for 6 weeks (skipping Memorial Day). You are *not* expected to read the first chapter before the first meeting (though of course you can if you want to).
