MARCH 1, 2023

Saint Mary Pastor, Fr. Jeffrey Kegley, brought our community together on Ash Wednesday. It marked the first day of Lent, the six weeks of penitence before Easter. We were blessed to share this holy day with so many families.

Principal's Message

"God does not ask of us anything that he himself has not first given us. We love because he first has loved us.” –1 Jn 4:19

As Pope Francis reminded us in 2022 in his message for Lent, we are called to “sow seeds of goodness for the benefit of others." This means actively choosing to make visible and hear the voices of those people who are on the margins.

As I reflect on the many acts of kindness that I see in our school everyday I am so very proud of our students. They continue to go above and beyond for those that are struggling. From our SOUPer bowl drive to the hundreds of diapers and baby supplies to families in need. The 40 days of Lent not only asks us to give up something but it also asks us to take positive action. I love watching out students grow with God.

God bless,

Craig Palmer

"Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free..."

This week Memorial Hall transformed into Ellis Island and 3rd grade transformed into generations of immigrants who journeyed through Ellis Island. What an unforgettable lesson for our students.

Last week our Saint Mary Math team took part in another round of competition hosted by Christian Brothers Academy (CBA). This one was special because Ryan Manely '19, a current senior at CBA was their moderator. Ryan was also taught by Patrick Melosh, Math team coach and middle school Math teacher.

Our 6th graders had an introduction to printmaking, using block impression plates. They learned about Pop Artist, Andy Warhol and studied his endangered species series of prints. The students chose an endangered animal and created three separate final prints. "My absolute favorite part was how much they really loved it and how engrossed they were with making prints. Seeing their faces as they peel the paper away from their block was priceless. The students did such a great job, worked hard, and were inventive in their ideas. I was very proud of them!" said Art Teacher Michelle Laneve.

Middletown Patch recently launched an initiative to help recognize Star Students and our very own 5th grader Ara was profiled. Read her story here.

The Saints Varsity Cheer Team took 3rd place led by coach Katerina Virgilio! 🏆
