"Our New Normal"
Sunday Sermon

During this third Sunday in our Easter series: "Discovering New Life," Tami Gomez's sermon based on John 21:1-19 will invite us to see that the risen Jesus encounters us in our everyday moments and challenges us to "follow him" in our everyday lives. We are transformed when we meet Christ and we are also still ourselves. Come see how Jesus wants to meet you, right where you are at now!

John 21:1-19 Jesus Appears to Seven Disciples, Jesus and Peter
Worship: 9:00 & 10:30 am
New Songs
Sunday

Hello Church! As we journey through the current  Discovering New Life  sermon series we will be incorporating songs of testimony. These songs are personal, devotional, and intended to proclaim the greatness of God's mighty work in our lives. Here are a couple new songs we'll be singing throughout the series. To be honest, some of the parts can be a little tricky (but not too tricky!), so I hope you have a chance to listen to them a few times before Sunday. You can do it! I pray they become meaningful to you and the friends you invite to church in order to Discover New Life in Christ.

Layette Ministry
All Congregation Donations
Needed
Deadline is Mother's Day, May 12th

Baby
Our congregation is collecting baby items to give to needy mothers at the county hospital. Please bring new and handmade items (sizes 0-3 months and 3 months): onesies, footed sleepers, sweaters, socks, blankets, teething toys, beanies, diapers, and donations for books to the crib in the lobby near the Welcome Center by Mother's Day, May 12th.

On May 14th, there are two opportunities to participate in the preparation and assembly of the layette kits. In the morning, each item has to be de-tagged, and sorted. If you can help, meet at 9:30 am in the Teen Center. In the evening, you are invited to eat dinner and come and assemble the kits from 6:00-8:00 pm in the Teen Center. Please sign up at the Welcome Center to help. For more information, email Barbara Groenveld.
White Rose on the Altar
Sunday

The white rose on the altar honors the life of Masako Sasahara, mother of Mel Sasahara, mother-in-law of Vera, and grandmother of Annalee, who went to be with the Lord on April 17, 2019. We extend Christian sympathy to the entire Sasahara family. Masako's memorial service will be held at the Japanese Christian Church of Walnut Creek on June 1st at 11:00 am.

Change4Change
Making a Difference in Our World

The recent Change4Change donations are going towards the following two worthy causes: the continued support of two children, Liz and Francisco, in Brazil that are being sponsored by Saint Matthew youth through Compassion International for $76 a month per child. The cost goes towards supplying books and clothing for school and helping the children have the necessities to receive an education.

The ELCA has a global farm challenge program. Our Saint Matthew youth - thanks to your change4change contributions - are using the rest of the money to purchase a farm to help a family escape the cycle of hunger and poverty in a sustainable way. The cost of the farm is $715 to purchase a cow, a couple of goats, a dozen chicks, two pigs, farming tools, seeds, and for the family to receive some agricultural training. Thank you for your contributions!
