“Always be ready to give an explanation to anyone who asks you for a reason for your hope.”
First Peter 3:15 (NABRE)

As people of faith, how do we remain hopeful in dark times when events in the world threaten to overwhelm all sense of hope? What are the sources of our hope—the scriptures, teachings, events, stories, virtues, exemplary people—that sustain us and empower us? When we lose contact with the sources and reasons for hope within our faith, we become susceptible to those things in the world that instead fill us with fear and dread of the future. The power of hope—and knowing the sources of our hope—is important for people of all faiths. And each of us can gain insight into our sense of hope by listening to voices from other faiths. This July, the Bigger Bible School event at St. Michael and All Angels will provide an opportunity for interfaith reflection on the meaning, power, and sources of hope in four major religious traditions—Judaism, Islam, Buddhism, and Christianity. Religious leaders from each of these faiths will address the meaning, power, and sources of hope within their faith tradition. We invite you to join us and have your own hope reinvigorated.

Experiencing God Summer Reading
The Thursday morning Experiencing God Bible Study is enjoying a summer vacation and will resume our regular weekly gatherings in September.

Throughout this summer we are reading three small books which we will discuss at our fall gatherings.

All are welcome to join us in our summer read and the discussion in the fall. All are also welcome to become a part of our Bible Study when we regather in the fall.

The books for our summer read are :

  • My Neighbor’s Faith (available in our bookshop. We are reading this at the suggestion of Father David Cox in anticipation of BBS July 22-25)
  • The Dream of God. Y Verna Dozier
  • Jesus and the Disinherited by Howard Thurman

God and Hamilton: Spiritual Themes from the Life of Alexander Hamilton and the Broadway Musical He Inspired

Kevin Cloud, son of Steve Cloud, is a local pastor and has just published a creative devotional book based on the hit musical Hamilton .
God and Hamilton  impressively weaves together insights from the musical itself, the lives of Alexander and Eliza Hamilton, and the story of Scripture into a tapestry that challenges people of faith to reexamine their lives.  An easy and inspiring read for summer, and perhaps a thoughtful gift for a friend.

Available in St. Michael’s Bookshop by the Library.
Below is the prayer that our Rector Search Committee has crafted to guide them through the important process of calling a new Rector. Please join them in reflecting on these words as a way of supporting them in the work they have been chosen to do.
Prayer for our Rector Search Committee:
Almighty and gracious God, please guide St. Michael and All Angels in the search for the 9 th Rector. May each person committed to this calling trust your guidance to discern your will. Give the Rector Search Committee open minds to receive the desires and concerns of all parishioners. Grant them a creative spirit to overcome challenges with inspiration, resourcefulness, and productivity. May they carry out your works in our community and fully satisfy the needs of our parish. All this we ask through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
