Dear Parents and Families,
Last week we had an abbreviated and very fun Catholic Schools Week where we celebrated all the wonderful opportunities we have as members of Saint Michaels School. Sadly we missed out on a few activities due to the snow, and we have reschedule the events for later this week to ensure neither rain nor sleet nor snow will keep us from celebrating Catholic education!
Reregistration materials will come home this Wednesday. Please be sure to read through all materials carefully and call or email the front office with any questions.
Thank you to all who spread the word about our Open House for potential new families over the weekend. We had many visitors who came to tour our school, meet our teachers, and learn about all the wonderful things Saint Michaels has to offer. If you know of anyone looking to join our school and community, please encourage them to call the front office or come by for a tour.
Below are some quick notes for the upcoming week:
- Monday, 1/7 - 2/6: Scantron Testing
- Monday - Friday, 1/28 - 2/1: Catholic Schools Week
- Tuesday, 2/5: Claire's Gourmet begins
- Wednesday, 2/6: Spelling Bee 1:30
- Thursday, 2/7: Crazy Hat Day
- Saturday, 2/9: Confirmation Retreat
I am happy to introduce our newest staff member, Mrs. Gloria Haring! Mrs. Haring will be working part-time, Monday - Friday in our 2nd grade classroom as an instructional aide. She has previously worked as a professor at universities in Mexico, and has subbed in Fairfax County and at O'Connell High School. Mrs. Haring holds her BS in Communication Sciences and Masters in Publishing. She has a love of the Faith, high expectations for education, and is thrilled to serve St. Michael School and Parish by joining our team.
Thank you to Mr. Ray and Mr. Tam for installing one of our nine new ActivPanels in Mrs. Jennison's PreK classroom. Also purchased and installed was a slide-able wall mount (pictured above) for the board so it can be lowered down for students to interact with it on their eye level. We continue to explore new ways of engaging our students in the wonderful programs and technologies that make learning fun!
Since we missed out on some fun last week due to the weather, we will be holding our Spelling Bee this Wednesday, and encouraging our students to wear their craziest hats on Thursday.
Due to the weather cancellations and delays last week, Scantron has once again been extended until Wednesday of this week.
Miss Cortright is looking for volunteers to be judges at this year's science fair, which will be held on Wednesday, February 13th from 630pm to 9pm. You do not need a background in science to be a judge, though having an interest in science would help! If you think that you or someone you know would be interested in participating as a judge for the science fair, please contact Miss Cortright as soon as possible at
