Virus as a Summons to Faith
An All-Parish Small-Group Reading
The Learning and Spiritual Practices team at St. Michael’s invites you to take part in a five week parish-wide conversation about our experiences during this pandemic, especially about how our faith helps us to respond—to cope, to endure, to defy, to overcome. Our conversations will be prompted by a brief, little book written by Walter Brueggemann entitled Virus as a Summons to Faith: Biblical Reflections in a Time of Loss, Grief, and Uncertainty (Amazon: Kindle - $9.99; Paperback - $14.00—don’t delay; shipments are backed up).

Options for small group gathering times are:
1. Mondays at 8 p.m. beginning September 21.
2. Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m. beginning September 22.
3. Tuesdays at 8 p.m. beginning September 22.
4. Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. beginning September 23.
5. Thursdays at 7 p.m. beginning September 24.

"Slavery by Another Name" Documentary Discussion
Trish Unruh and Cathy Jackson are facilitating a series of important discussions on racial injustice. Participants gather at an appointed time via Zoom to listen in or add their perspective. Tonight the group will be discussing a documentary entitled Slavery by Another Name. It is available as a DVD at the Johnson County Library and through the library streaming service Kanopy. View the film anytime before the Zoom meeting if possible, then join the discussion tonight, September 16th at 6:00.

Attendees from those joining the first 2 calls in the series have said:
" The discussion has brought an awareness of the systemic oppression suffered by persons of color, and in my naivety to my part in the injustice."

"The film demonstrated examples of real people, real stories that compel the viewer to respond to the outrage of injustice."

"I am gaining a new perspective from the discussion, and from listening to others' thoughts"

Contact Trish Unruh at to receive the Zoom invitation for this evening's meeting.
