October 2, 2020
Dear Saint Paul School Families and Friends,

Last night we concluded our individual grade level virtual Back to School Nights.  If you were unable to make it please reach out to your child’s teacher.

This year we have added a “Study Skills” course with Ms. Barnes to our grade 6 curriculum.  This week students assessed the positives of the school year and areas that need individual improvement.  I think you will find we have some pretty smart students!

POSITIVES:
·      Something that is good is that I learned a lot in the first month
·      I loved my first month of middle school, I’m new here and I’m pretty sure if I were still at my last school, it would be really confusing.
·      I have made new friends who are very nice.
·      I love having more freedom and have awesome teachers.
·      I stopped forgetting my books
·      I’m getting really good grades
·      Social Studies

NEEDS IMPROVEMENT:
·      I want to improve my reading
·      I need to pay more attention
·      To work on math skills
·      Planning put projects
·      Need to study Spanish more
·      Focusing more in class
·      Need to work on stop leaving homework to last minute

Next Wednesday, October 7 we will have our first Remote Distance Learning Day for ALL students.  As you prepare for the day please refer back to Wednesday’s email – IMPORTANT - Distance “Learning Space” Checklist for October 7

Saint Paul School is currently taking inventory of available technology that may be loaned out and do not guarantee the availability of loaners. This would only be enacted if we have enough to cover all families and in the event of a longer need for a shift to remote learning.  Please use the following link to indicate your NEED for technology. As said, this would not be available for next Wednesday.  Grade 6-8 students need not be included, as they have school issued Chromebook:

FALL NWEA TESTING
KINDERGARTEN ~ GRADE 8
September 14 – October 9 (new date)

MAP® assessments are used to measure your student’s progress or growth in school. MAP® tests are important to teachers because they keep track of progress and growth in basic skills. They let teachers know where a student’s strengths are and if help is needed in any specific areas. Teachers use this information to help them guide instruction in the classroom.

Students will take these tests during their Instructional Technology class. NWEA Testing will continue next week.
WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 7
REMOTE LEARNING DAY

Wednesday, October 7 will be our first Remote Distance Learning Day for ALL students. Teachers will instruct from their classrooms and students will login from home.  This will allow us to troubleshoot any potential problems, should a class or our school have the need to move remotely.  ZOOM links to be sent out closer to this date.

Saint Paul School is currently taking inventory of available technology that may be loaned out and do not guarantee the availability of loaners. This would only be enacted if we have enough to cover all families and in the event of a longer need for a shift to remote learning.
