September 18, 2020
Dear Saint Paul School Families and Friends,

Week three is complete and I continue to be blessed with a supportive and patient school community.  The best part of my week is hearing the preschoolers outside, visiting with students at outdoor lunch and listening to teachers teach!

Back to School Nights – Last night I kicked off our annual Back to School Nights with over 85 parents joining.  Many topics were covered from culture and climate to curriculum, COVID19, enrollment and PTO.  Over the next couple of weeks you will meet with the teachers and learn more grade specific content.

Family Picture – Although our masks protect our health, they are impacting our ability to get to know our school community. Our goal is to learn everyone’s names and to recognize our new families.  Please send in a family picture and label the back with individual family names and student grade.

PTO – Thank you for the portable voice amplifiers.  They make a big difference in and out of the classroom.

OOFOS – Thank you to Saint Paul School Alumni Tim Boyle and OOFOS for thinking of the Saint Paul School staff.  Today we were each gifted with a pair of their shoes!

Hitt Family – Thank you for providing the faculty and staff with lunch on Thursday!

School Directory – You now have access to the Saint Paul School Directory via the Family Portal by clicking “Directory”.  We do have a few families that opted out of having their information published.

Windows / Uniform – We have been advised to keep windows open as long as possible.  That being said, the cooler weather is upon us.  ALL students should be in proper school uniform.  Please send students to school with their Saint Paul School fleece and/or sweaters.  I should not be seeing students in jackets or logo sweatshirts.

Remote Learning – At this time, if a student is not feeling well enough to be in school we are not offering remote learning as an option.  Remote learning takes preparation beyond that of getting a student onto ZOOM.  It will be used on a case-by-case basis when related to COVID19 or long-term illness. Thank you as we navigate this unchartered territory.

Feedback from “Better than a Suggestion Box” ….

Thank you to everyone at Saint Paul School for all of the hard work preparing for this year. As a parent of a remote student, I cannot thank you enough. We are all so pleased with how our first week went. Ms. Bertucci is excellent at engaging with the remote students and so far everything is going great. We truly are blessed with wonderful educators and administrators.

What a great job was done this week, for parking, getting the children into the classes, and making the new students and parents feel welcome.

Miss Fiotto has been so nice and welcoming! She has made our transition to St. Paul’s a great one! Thank you Miss Fiotto for all you have done!!

Ms. Fasano, we wanted to first of all thank you and your staff for supporting our decision to keep our girls remote. It was a tough decision for us to make, but are glad we made it. We have had the opportunity to assist our young students while they are in class with making sure they were using the correct paper/ book etc. We wanted to especially let you know that Mrs. Polvere and Mrs. Martini along with Mrs. Williams and Mrs. Lagrotteria have all gone above and beyond to make sure the girls are included and have the proper pages/supplies needed. We wanted to assure you that Mrs. Polvere and Mrs. Martini are exceptional (new to St. Paul's) teachers! Our girls end every day excited about what they did in school and can't wait to do it again the next day. We also wanted to note the heads up lesson planning, so we have what they need for the day, has been awesome! We couldn't be happier with your PreK and Kindergarten Crew!

TEAM SPS: Embarking on a new adventure together!

Have a wonderful weekend!

September 14 – October 2

MAP® assessments are used to measure your student’s progress or growth in school. MAP® tests are important to teachers because they keep track of progress and growth in basic skills. They let teachers know where a student’s strengths are and if help is needed in any specific areas. Teachers use this information to help them guide instruction in the classroom.

Students will take these tests during their Instructional Technology class. NWEA Testing will continue next week.

October 7 was previously scheduled for an Early Release Day. Instead, it will be a “remote learning day” for all Saint Paul School students. Teachers will instruct from their classrooms and students will login from home.  This will allow us to troubleshoot any potential problems, should a class or our school have the need to move remotely.  ZOOM links to be sent out closer to this date.
This is your chance to learn more about school updates and your student's daily life at SPS-- including meeting their teachers and hearing curriculum presentations.

Band and violin lessons will still be offered this year to students in grades 2 - 8, but lessons will take place via Zoom, once a week after school. CLICK HERE to view and listen to all instruments they offer instruction on. Make sure to watch the full band video at the end of the band instrument demonstration - it will hopefully inspire everyone!

We are finding the buffs/gators are not staying put on students.  For the safety of all, starting Monday, we are asking that they be replaced with masks for ALL students.

Please use this online form to offer virtual compliments, shout outs, concerns, suggestions and solutions. Ms. Fasano will check weekly and either respond individually or include in her Friday newsletter.
