Before my husband and I got married, we made a few promises to each other. Mine was that our children would attend Catholic school. His was that we would always have carpeting in the bedroom rather than wood floors and I hate carpet.
When we moved to Middletown in 2018, we enrolled our son Jack in the Little Saints program at Saint Mary School, and I immediately loved it. Then, of course, COVID disrupted everything. Like many families, we decided to try public school since “everyone” said Middletown had a wonderful school system. Jack started kindergarten there and attended public school from grades K–2. I truly have no complaints about our experience; it was actually very positive.
But I knew something was missing.
That something was God, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
During Jack’s second-grade year in public school, I began sending my younger daughter, Eloise, to the Tiny Tot program at Saint Mary’s. Every single day when I dropped her off, I could feel the love and warmth from the teachers and staff. It was tangible. And while our public-school experience was good, I wasn’t feeling that same faith-filled connection there and I missed it deeply.
I longed to be part of a community rooted in faith, where children are taught not only to love themselves, but to love their neighbor. I wanted my children to be educated by people who share the same values and beliefs that my husband and I hold close to our hearts. Most importantly, I wanted God to be part of their everyday lives even during the hours when I couldn’t be with them.
Perhaps I am partial, since I attended Catholic school my entire life. But to this day, I still rely on that community. The friendships and relationships I formed through my Catholic education remain active and meaningful in my life.
Above all, I believe Saint Mary School forms the whole person, academically, spiritually, and morally. And that is why we so passionately choose to send our children here.
Thank you for allowing me to share.
Sincerely,
Marilu Krasniqi
