Ashley Stokes, Associate Head of School; Evan Powell, Head of School
(beginning July 1, 2020)
We are planning to welcome students back to school on August 19. Our school community will follow specific health precautions in accordance with local, state and federal requirements and guidelines.

Introducing our Re-entry Task Force Committee:
  • Head of School: Evan Powell
  • Associate Head of School: Ashley Stokes
  • Director of Admissions/Marketing: Beth Hopewell
  • Faculty Division Representative: Missy Brown
  • Board of Directors Representative: Tammy Clark
  • Medical Professionals: Dr. John Keith and Dr. Ramesh Bharadwaj

The Task Force Committee is meeting to discuss and make decisions regarding any modifications that may be necessary for our new school year. We are carefully planning the logistics of having everyone return to campus, and we are providing professional learning opportunities for faculty and staff about health and safety, technology, and student support. We are committed to sharing our initial, flexible re-entry plan with you on July 8.

Why do we need a Re-Entry Task Force?
More than 300 students and faculty/staff fill our campus throughout four buildings that encompass nearly 50,000 sq. ft., playgrounds, and other common areas including our courtyard, garden, and the All Saints' Church sanctuary and front lawn. We are evaluating our use of all space and how we may interact safely together when we return to campus.

What is the Continuity Plan for Learning?
In the event that there is a local, state, or federal mandate that requires our campus to close temporarily, we have made significant enhancements to our distance learning process. Our Continuity Plan for Learning document will be available for parents on July 15.

What is the Google Level 1 training that our teachers
are completing?
Google for Education is an excellent professional development tool for educators to enhance their teaching and learning process with students and communication within our school community. By completing the Google Level 1 training, our faculty will be ready to use and teach Google Docs, Slides, Sheets, Drawings, Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Classroom, YouTube, and other applications.

What technology upgrades to the campus are being considered?
We are evaluating our infrastructure, including access points for WiFi, and plans for a 1:1 device implementation in 1st-6th grades.

New Faces / New Places: Art, Library, Music
Lauren Seger - Art

Lauren Seger will join ASEDS as our new Art teacher. Mrs. Seger holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood Education from Francis Marion University as well as a Montessori Early Childhood (ages 3-6) diploma from the Palmetto Montessori Institute. She has taught for six years as a Primary Montessori Teacher (grades 3K-5K). Mrs. Seger has wanted to be a teacher since she was in kindergarten. From helping her mom in her classes, to being a teacher cadet in high school, to completing the education program at Francis Marion University, she has always known that she belongs in the classroom. Mrs. Seger's favorite thing about teaching is the connection she makes with her students. She believes that students learn best when they are in a nurturing and fun environment.

From Mrs. Seger: " Even though I am a new to All Saints', I can already tell that there is a strong family atmosphere among the teachers, staff, and students. Everyone is welcoming and supportive. I can't wait to get to know all of the students here, and I am looking forward to being a part of the ASEDS family! I love playing volleyball, watching movies, getting together with family and friends, and, of course, art. Drawing and painting are my favorites. I enjoy spending time with my husband, Brad, and our two dogs."
Melody Haigler - Library

Melody Haigler will join ASEDS as our school Librarian. Mrs. Haigler holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Elementary/Early Childhood Education from Newberry College as well as an Elementary Montessori certificate from Lander University. Mrs. Haigler brings a vast amount of experience with 31 years of teaching, primarily in 1st grade, 4th grade, and 1st-3rd grade Montessori.

Mrs. Haigler fell in love with school in the 1st grade! She had a wonderful teacher named Mrs. Dersahagan who made school and books magical. She discovered her love for teaching when she worked with a 2nd grade class during her senior year of high school. She loves seeing children enjoy reading as much as she does.

From Mrs. Haigler: "I am so excited to be working in the library! I am thrilled to be able to share the love of reading with my students. I LOVE children's literature and and am so happy to be able to share all my favorite children's authors and books. I have been married to my husband, Andy, for 30 years and have two, beautiful, grown daughters, Megan and Taylor. I am a member of the historic Pisgah UMC where I enjoy teaching Sunday School. I have four Barred Rock chickens who live in a coop that my husband built in our backyard. I also have a sweet rescue dog named Jack."
Beth Lewallen - Music & 5th grade

Beth Lewallen, an All Saints' faculty member since 1999, will be teaching music classes as well as 5th grade Language Arts and Math. Mrs. Lewallen, (or Mrs. Lew, as she is affectionately called), earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Coker College where she was the first Honor Graduate, as well as a Master's degree from Columbia College in Music and Education. During the past 33 years, Mrs. Lewallen has taught all grades, K-12, as well as Gifted and Talented students. She has served a choir director and church organist/harpsichordist, as well as a professional accompanist for soloists and ensembles from around the state.

From Mrs. Lewallen: "All Saints' is a place that combines the best parts of education with a warm, supportive family environment. Our school is a wonderful place to engage children to become the best students that they can be while nurturing their development in a Christian environment. We go far beyond just being purveyors of knowledge; we care about each and every child and want the best for them. My children, Grace and Worth, graduated from All Saints', so I personally know the impact that our school can have; it is simply the best! I love to travel, but when I am at home, I enjoy playing with my adorable cat. A little known fact about me is that even though I'm a musician, I don't like to listen to music in the car. I enjoy seeing new places, trying new cuisines, and all things Disney. I enjoy being a member of the Masterworks choir and various other performing groups."
Get to Know Ashley Stokes
(Associate Head of School - July 1, 2020)
What inspired you to become an educator?
I’ve had several impactful teachers who inspired me over the years. My 1st grade teacher Mrs. Rogers was nurturing, patient, and loving. She worked with me to become a good reader. I discovered that learning was fun, even when it was hard. My 4th grade teacher, Mrs. Cusumano, was strict and set high expectations, but she instilled a good work ethic in her students. Both teachers inspired me to teach and to provide an environment for all children to be successful, even those who needed a little extra push and a little extra care. My grandfather also owned a teacher supply store and I always loved playing “teacher” with my friends and younger brother.

What is your favorite thing to do, away from school?
Anything on the water makes me happy. I also love to host family gatherings. There is something particularly special about watching cousins run, laugh, and play together.

What is your favorite book?
Number the Stars by Lois Lowry. I love history and became fascinated at a young age with learning about the Holocaust. I love the message that this text shouts to the world, “Do what’s right, even when the world is wrong.”

Tell us about your family .
I grew up in Sumter and graduated from Laurence Manning Academy. I have two brothers, Brad and Dustin, and I am the middle child. I’ve been married to my husband Chris for eight years. We have two children, Thomas (4) and Caroline (2). We love to boat, fish, and play outside. We are loyal Gamecock fans!

What are 3 fun facts about you?
I love shark fishing!
I dream about publishing a children's book one day.
My son, Thomas, is teaching me to catch lizards and snakes.

What is your favorite place to vacation?
Edisto Island, because it is family-oriented and relaxing.

What is your favorite place you have visited?
Key West, because the fishing is good, especially during lobster season, and the key lime pie is delicious!

What is your favorite food?
I love any kind of chocolate and key lime pie!

Why did you want to come to ASEDS?
