Hello Steve, Enjoy our Saints News!

HEAD OF SCHOOL MUSING

A few weeks back, CESA’s Executive Director asked me to write a blog on innovation at VCHS. This is how I began…

The teacher shortage was on my mind more than normal coming out of the COVID pandemic. Front and center with the Vail Christian High School strategic plan were the words ‘Product Superiority’ with Goal #1 reading ‘Recruit, Retain, and Grow Top Faculty,’ and it was the right time to double down on our efforts to ‘retain and grow.’

As I thought about our strategic plan, our place in history, and the arc of my career, I found myself thinking even more about our veteran faculty. What do they need to remain in the profession? What unique professional development opportunities would help them grow? And maybe more importantly, is there a way to measure the correlation between their professional development and student achievement? I wanted to leverage what I had learned in my career and the great work happening in our peer schools, so we got to work.

Congratulations Tyler Jager

Congratulations to VCHS Math Department's Mr. Jager, for finishing the 2023 BMW Dallas Marathon last weekend. Mr. Jager says "It was a tough race, where I battled through some injury early in the race, but pressed-in to finish the race as best as I could. I enjoyed seeing the city of Dallas, especially so close to my folk's neighborhood. On to San Francisco next summer for my next race in late July!"

Tyler pictured here with his brother-in-law, who finished his first half-marathon on the same day Mr. Jager ran his race.

Saints Show Their Stewardship

One of the 5 "Portrait of a Saint" qualities is Stewardship, "Our graduates are servant leaders, honoring and caring for that which has been entrusted to them, both at home and abroad."

This trait is seen when students take the initiative to leave their space better than they found it.

The other day Yaro Veitch and Patrick Greer came to Mrs. Verratti and asked for cleaning supplies. They recognized that something had to be done about an unassigned, empty, dirty locker. The young men didn't just report the problem, but rather, took personal initiative to fix the problem themselves.

Thank you Yaro and Patrick!
