VCHS Faculty Innovation Grant recipients for 2024 include:
Kristin Baker (English Teacher) will be taking Spanish courses (Levels I-IV) at Colorado Mountain College over a 15-month time period. She said, “In order to better understand my native Spanish-speaking students, I would like to put myself in the seat of a student and learn Spanish. I need to know and show interest in their language and culture to better understand how to teach them.”
Sandra Burner (Resource Director and Teacher) will attend a Learning and the Brain conference in Boston titled “Teaching Students to Think, Create, Innovate, Learn, and Adapt for an Anxious, AI Age.” Neuroscientists, psychologists, researchers, and educators will explore brain science, neurodiversity, what makes humans different from machines, and what skills our students will need to thrive in an automated age.
Sarah Hochtl (Science Teacher) will attend the Student Entrepreneurship Symposium at Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy (another CESA school). She will learn how the school has used their teaching kitchen for successful student entrepreneurship opportunities. Mrs. Hochtl will take what she learns from the Symposium to further explore our investment in a VCHS teaching kitchen (including mobile options).
Ashley Nock (Math/Theology Teacher and Co-Director of Christian Life) will experience a multi-day Benedictine monastery retreat. With more exposure to ancient spiritual practices, she hopes to renew her perspective on concepts she teaches in Theology, incorporates into chapels, and emphasizes during Soul Care Week.
Stephanie Ward (Spanish and Social Studies Teacher) will travel to Spain this summer to complete the last 60 miles of the Camino Frances (the most famous Camino de Santiago trail) with a group of sixteen other teachers from around the world. She looks forward to integrating her love for Spanish and history with her Christian faith and bringing that all back to VCHS to share with her students and the broader VCHS community.
Congratulations to the 2024 VCHS Faculty Innovation Grant recipients!
