Greetings! Please enjoy our Saints News!

HEAD OF SCHOOL MUSING

Who doesn’t like a great party? A celebration?

We’re having one next Thursday from 5:30-7:15 at VCHS. It’s the annual, only-one-offered, one-of-a-kind Admissions Open House specifically designed for 8th grade students, future Saints, the VCHS Class of 2030.

With prospective students and their parents (last year over 115 attended), 40 Student Ambassadors, and all our faculty and staff, we expect over 175 people in attendance. Why is this one of my favorite VCHS events? It’s a celebration of our current students and teachers that showcases our tight-knit community.

The night will begin with five Student Ambassadors who will each share a Portrait of a Graduate attribute: Gratitude, Advocacy, Stewardship, Growth, and Known. Students include Lluvia Esparza ’27, Eva Isaacs ’26, Samantha Schoch ’26, Michelle Teague ’27, and Luke Tyler ’27.

Later, Student Ambassadors will serve as tour guides for 8th graders and their parents visiting seven stations hosted by our amazing teachers. Stations include Arts, Athletics, Counseling/Student Academic Support, Engineering/Computer Science/Aviation, Humanities, Math/Science, and Student Life (with Betty Bartok ’26, Reed Garrison ’26, and Patrick Greer ’27).

Much like a college visit, we want 8th grade students and their parents to assess if VCHS is the ‘right fit’, rather than choose a school based on ‘where my friends are going to high school’. For us, ‘right fit’ is all about shared values in relationship with other students and teachers. Those values are showcased in the Portrait of a Graduate and Portrait of a Teacher. The latter is what our teachers strive to be.

Faithful – We follow Jesus and seek to become like Him. We are deeply committed to our shared calling and school’s mission.

Learners – We are lifelong learners and regularly evaluate and innovate our teaching. We hone our craft by being persistently curious, creative, and adaptive.

Student Focused – We see each of our students as a unique creation of God – made in His image. We are students of our students.

Highly Relational – We like to laugh and have fun together. We assume the best in others and strive to create community with love at the core.

If you have an 8th grader, please RSVP and join us. If you know of parents with an 8th grader, please forward this Saints News to them or take a screenshot of the QR code and send them a quick text. This is a not-to-be-missed party, a celebration of our students and teachers.
