The saying goes -- “It’s the little things in life.” Those little things can make great memories, and our football team created those during their 2020 season. They went 2-2 with a COVID-19 truncated season that spanned from late September through last week. I asked our senior football players to share highlights, gratitude, and funny stories. This is what they said.
- I’m most thankful to the new players who joined the team making sure we had a great season
- My highlight was the music and bonding on bus rides to away games
- The season’s funniest moment was when Vinny hurdled someone during practice
- My highlight was playing backup quarterback and scoring a 2-point conversion
- I’m so grateful for our awesome managers, the coaches, and the boys
- My season’s funniest moment happened when I thought I was making a tackle on a Soroco player and instead tackled my teammate Slater
- My season highlight was Senior Night’s win against Soroco
- I’m just thankful we were able to play 4 games
I’m so proud of our football players. They not only battled it out on the gridiron, but they also stayed strong in their fight against their other opponent -- coronavirus. Although it was a rough around the edges football season, there’s something beautiful about it. What strikes me most is that a ‘band of brothers’ stuck together, worked hard, had fun, and can now say ‘mission accomplished.’
Go Saints!

CyberPatriot
CyberPatriot is the National Youth Cyber Education Program created by the Air Force Association to inspire students toward careers in cybersecurity or other science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) disciplines critical to our nation's future. At the core of the program is the National Youth Cyber Defense Competition, putting students in charge of securing virtual networks in real world scenarios. The competition consists of three rounds from November through January and qualified teams will compete in the National Finals. The first round of the competition is complete and both VCHS teams are in the top third of the overall competition of about 2,800 teams nationwide.

Valley's Voice Passion Project
Valley’s Voice is a catalyst for change in Eagle County. It is a one-stop shop for youth to have a voice, be involved and make impactful change. Led by a Youth Executive Board, Valley's Voice is comprised of young people ages 14 to 25. Valley's Voice hosts events across the county to collect input on key issues for youth so that projects and progress can be facilitated.
It is through Valley's Voice that every youth in the county will have the opportunity to serve, be rewarded, and be recognized for their contribution to improve youth issues. Valley’s Voice spans several past programs including Youth Leaders Council and encompasses CTC youth advisors and other young people in our community. This youth-led, adult-supported program focuses on education and community service projects — giving young people a voice in programs that impact them — anything from helping build a playground to organizing a canned food drive; writing a book to cleaning up a park.

With restrictions and adjustments that COVID-19 has brought, what will the holidays look like this year? How do we maintain traditions when everything else has changed? The holidays are a time when traditions help us connect to ourselves and others and bring us back to the memories that are part of our upbringing.
