My family and I have had the privilege to live and travel outside the United States, including a 3 year stay in Tanzania, East Africa. I know firsthand how blessed we are as Americans. Just think about our freedoms – assembly, religion, speech, and the list goes on. Consider our economic prosperity.
I have the privilege to teach U.S. Government this school year to 31 amazing juniors and seniors. They give me hope for our nation and world. They’re interested, engaged and active as U.S. citizens, perhaps more than I’ve seen from any of my students throughout my career.
Wide-angle out even further for a spiritual perspective. As Christians, we follow the King of Kings who stands above all political leaders. Regardless of who holds political office, Jesus still sits on His celestial throne. That gives me the greatest hope, as it should you.
As Americans, we are blessed. On planet earth, the grass isn’t greener on the other side. The grass is greenest where we water it. And yes, our American grass needs continual watering.
As for my earthly citizenship, and I know the U.S. is far from perfect, I’m incredibly proud to be an American.
Warm Regards,
Steve O'Neil
