Greetings! Enjoy our Saints News!
HEAD OF SCHOOL MUSINGS
Let’s take a moment and broaden our perspective on Tuesday’s election. Wide-angle out for a global perspective and look beyond what’s happening here at home.
·     40% of Sub-Saharan Africa lives on less than $1.90 a day (World Vision)
·     Every day 8 Christians worldwide are killed because of their faith
(2020 World Watch List)
·     39% of the worldwide poor have no formal education at all (World Bank)
My family and I have had the privilege to live and travel outside the United States, including a 3 year stay in Tanzania, East Africa. I know firsthand how blessed we are as Americans. Just think about our freedoms – assembly, religion, speech, and the list goes on. Consider our economic prosperity.

I have the privilege to teach U.S. Government this school year to 31 amazing juniors and seniors. They give me hope for our nation and world. They’re interested, engaged and active as U.S. citizens, perhaps more than I’ve seen from any of my students throughout my career.

Wide-angle out even further for a spiritual perspective. As Christians, we follow the King of Kings who stands above all political leaders. Regardless of who holds political office, Jesus still sits on His celestial throne. That gives me the greatest hope, as it should you.

As Americans, we are blessed. On planet earth, the grass isn’t greener on the other side. The grass is greenest where we water it. And yes, our American grass needs continual watering.

As for my earthly citizenship, and I know the U.S. is far from perfect, I’m incredibly proud to be an American.

Warm Regards,
Steve O'Neil
BRAVOS!
Orion's sailing is out of this galaxy!
VCHS junior, Orion Adelman has been in Annapolis, MD this fall. Orion sails a double-handed boat with another teammate. He has competed at invitational races with USNA, Georgetown, St. Mary's, George Washington University and Tulane sailors in attendance. Orion is invited to attend an Olympic Development Clinic in Miami, FL where he will be sailing in an international class boat known as the i420. What an exciting opportunity to train under the world-class coaching provided by US Sailing's Olympic Development Team.

HEALTHY MIND & SPIRIT
Giving as a Form of Self-Care
There is growing evidence that giving to others can serve as a powerful form of self-careResearch shows that spending time on other people can boost our happiness, increase activity in the reward-processing areas of the brain, and even give us a greater sense of “time affluence” — making us feel like we have more time in our day, rather than less. Simply put, improving the lives of others feels good, and in turn, can improve our lives and well-being, too.
