Hello Steve, Enjoy our Saints News!

HEAD OF SCHOOL MUSING

One of my favorite school marketing campaigns focused on ‘well-rounded’ students. I remember one student we used for the shoot and can still visualize the photo shoot and subsequent marketing collateral. He sat on a stool on the front lawn of campus wearing his football uniform. In one hand he held a Faulkner novel, and in the other his cello. I love that image. It represents the three big A's – Academics, Arts, and Athletics. And I firmly believe that VCHS students are quite exceptionally well-rounded with all three refusing to be pigeon-holed into some of the false, classic high school singular caricatures – nerds, jocks, drama, etc.

Consider our students’ involvement with athletics and arts. Almost half of them now participate in a winter sport – Boys Basketball, Girls Basketball, Hockey, Nordic Ski, Alpine Ski, and Girls Dance. Speaking of Girls Dance, Ava Garrision and Patricia Zhang have done an outstanding job leading a young team and preparing for the State competition on December 10th.

With visual and performing arts, auditions for Big Fish – our Spring Musical – are underway. Theater Director Melinda Carlson expects more than 50 students to be involved with all of the aspects required for such a large undertaking.

Finally, mark your calendars for next Thursday’s Christmas Arts Celebration showcasing the four pillars of our arts program – chapel band, choral ensemble, video production, and visual arts. You’ll be inspired by our students but you’ll also experience the Christmas message – the arrival of Jesus, Immanuel, God with us.

Congratulation to Saints John McAbee '24, Jorge Sinaloa '24 and Lindsey Whitton '24 runners of the Vail Valley Running Team who went to the Nike Cross Country Southwest Regional Championship in Arizona last Saturday.
