Greetings! Enjoy our Saints News!
HEAD OF SCHOOL MUSINGS
With the days leading up to Easter, many Christians skip over Maundy Thursday (Passover meal/Last Supper) and give their attention to Good Friday and Easter Sunday. No doubt, Jesus’ death and resurrection are central to Christianity, but what happens at that upper room meal is also vital to understanding the events that follow.

Take a moment to read John 13:1-17 and picture yourself with Jesus and his disciples. “Knowing that the hour had come for him to leave this world,” Jesus gets up from the meal and takes time to wash his disciples’ dirty, grimy feet. Think about that. Knowing he will be betrayed and die, Jesus loves through feet washing.

Maundy comes from the Latin word mandatum (mandate or commandment) and for Jesus it’s a mandatum novum (new commandment) to “love one another.” How well are we loving one another? How well are we “washing each other’s feet?”

I’m also struck by the conversation between Jesus and his disciple Simon Peter who doesn’t want Jesus to wash his feet, at least at first. Do we allow Jesus to wash our feet? Wash away our wrongs and brokenness? Are we like Simon Peter at first? Or are we like Simon Peter after Jesus says “Unless I wash you, you have no part of me” will we allow Jesus to wash our dirty, grimy feet?

BRAVOS!
Bergan Behr - Not your typical 18 year old
This young woman is chasing her passions while finishing up her senior year at VCHS. Bergan has found her voice in her writing. Whether through poetry, essays, or her blog, Bergan wants to reach people - especially young girls - and let them know they are heard, seen and loved. She is a regular contributor for Forerunner Productions and her first book of poetry, Her Words Written will be published this spring.

When Bergan is not writing or in school she is working nights as a Certified Nursing Assistant, or CNA, at Castle Peak Senior Center. After completing a semester-long course at CMC and passing her written state exam and skills test, Bergan chooses to love on her patients, tending to their hearts and spirits while checking vitals and charting.

Bergan was accepted into the Nursing Program at Charleston Southern University, where she will attend school next fall.

Luke Vlaar - Tech Wizard
Luke Vlaar, VCHS class of 2020, has been one of the most valuable people around campus this year. Instead of traveling abroad during a Covid year Luke has stayed close to home, working part time on campus as well as with Mountain Life/Calvary Chapel and the Vail Valley Foundation. His passion is production and he's honing his craft. Please check out his latest piece highlighting some of our seniors and the Tuition Angel Fund at VCHS. We are thrilled to have him around through the end of the school year before he seeks new opportunities and focuses on the path God places before him.

SERVICE MATTERS
Mrs. Hochtl and Mrs. Wilson's freshmen connect groups served at Loaves and Fishes on Wednesday. They cooked over 100 chicken breasts and 90 cups of rice, along with veggies, salad and cookies. It was an amazing home cooked meal for the community, served with smiles and joy.

Way to serve, Saints!

There is also a Colorado trip based in Boulder in which students will work with Thorne Nature Experience connecting environmental stewardship and a youth camp program. VCHS students can apply for this opportunity and join other SStS member school students.

Love is a Verb

I stared at the black cursive letters painted on the wall of my English classroom almost every day of freshman year. I read them over and over in my head: “Love is a verb, not a noun.”
