Our parents resurrected an old VCHS tradition last Saturday with Carnival, a nod to our school’s early days and Mardi Gras fundraisers. Like then, friendship building (old and new) strengthening the VCHS community was their priority. It took a community of amazing parent volunteers (see list below) to create a community builder. Many of these parents not only volunteered for Carnival but also for last year’s ReMix, our school’s 25th anniversary celebration.
Many on this committee are still meeting, wrapping up the final details of Carnival and already brainstorming new community-building events for next school year. With the generosity of so many, Carnival raised (after expenses) over $60,000 to support the purchase of a bus, new volleyball net system and basketball shot clock, and Bentley’s commercial kitchen upgrades. We continue to receive gifts towards these initiatives. If you’ve not yet had an opportunity to make a gift, click here for the paddle raise.
With the $60,000 raised so far, we are deploying it in the following ways:
- $10,000 – Bentley’s commercial kitchen upgrades (goal met)
- $15,000 – Volleyball and Basketball ($10,000 remaining to meet goal)
- $40,000 – Bus purchase (the VCHS Board has also allocated $60,000 toward a bus). We estimate a new bus will cost approximately $175,000 so every additional dollar raised will allow us to purchase a newer bus with fewer miles.
Thank you to everyone who bought Carnival tickets (including for our faculty and staff), donated silent auction items, sponsored the event, and especially for our amazing parent volunteers, without whom none of this would have happened.
