Greetings! Enjoy our Saints News!
HEAD OF SCHOOL MUSINGS
After an 11-year VCHS run (part-time and the last 4 years full-time), this summer Lori Hixon will step away from her role as Director of College/Career Counseling to dedicate more time to care for her extended family. Lori has elevated our college/career counseling game to new levels and has provided strong leadership with our focus on service. No doubt we will miss Lori and all she has brought to VCHS.
I’m excited to announce that Adina Petersmeyer (our Head Girls Volleyball Coach) will become the Director of College/Career Counseling. Let me tell you more about Adina and why she’ll be such a great fit.

Since 2014, Adina has worked with Vail Resorts in key leadership roles at Beaver Creek. Before that, she worked for 7 years as an administrator and coach at Bryn Athyn College and Academy of the New Church. Adina holds a Master’s in Education with an emphasis in Administration from Springfield College and a Bachelor of Arts from Bucknell University. She also served as a Teaching Associate at Springfield College.

Adina will join and soon begin training with the National Association for College Admission Counseling, Rocky Mountain Association for College Admission Counseling, and Colorado Council on High School/College Relations. This summer, Lori will work with Adina to ensure a smooth transition.

Adina recently said, “I am beyond excited to start this new chapter with VCHS grounded in relationships, building confidence in our students while serving the Lord. I will get to know each and every student in depth and cater their future plans to highlight their strengths and to challenge them to be who they want to be in this world.” Adina will bring high energy, strength with relationships and connections, and “coach” our Saints to reach their fullest potential both at VCHS and in the years that follow. She’s also excited to help VCHS students who aspire to compete athletically at the collegiate level helping position them for those opportunities.

Adina is married to Justin and they have two children, Brock ’23 and James ’25.
Please join me in congratulating and welcoming Adina to her new assignment beginning June 1st. ([email protected])

Students Shoulder to Shoulder is a locally-based non-profit that gives students the opportunity to learn about ethical leadership from inspiring nonprofit leaders. Students discover the complexity of global challenges while immersed in the communities they serve, working with children and focused on the environment.

SStS has a bold purpose – to grow a global network of ethical leaders. This summer, SStS is offering 9 global, domestic, and Colorado based trips. There is also a Colorado trip based in Boulder in which students will work with Thorne Nature Experience connecting environmental stewardship and a youth camp program. VCHS students can apply for this opportunity and join other SStS member school students.

Summer is an excellent time to explore your interests, work, shadow professionals, and/or attend summer programs. Remember work is a great way to grow your responsibility and learn a new skill. Internships, summer programs, and job shadows allow you to learn more about careers and majors that are interesting. Take some time to review the attached list and think about how best to spend your summer.

MAY IS MENTAL HEALTH MONTH - LOOK FOR WEEKLY TOOLS 2 THRIVE

Since 1949, Mental Health America and our affiliates across the country have observed May is Mental Health Month by reaching out to millions of people through the media, local events, and screenings.

The COVID-19 pandemic has had a profound impact on the mental health of people of all ages. Now, more than ever, it is critical to reduce the stigma around mental health struggles, because that stigma often prevents individuals from seeking help.
