Greetings! Enjoy our Saints News!
HEAD OF SCHOOL MUSINGS
I’m an optimist by nature – a glass much more than half full kind of guy. Even more so, my faith gives me wings to see opportunities – possibilities. I’m buoyed by Scripture passages like these - God can do anything, you know—far more than you could ever imagine or guess or request in your wildest dreams! That’s why I’m so excited about the work we’re currently doing with strategic planning. We’re in research mode but soon will transition to further refine our school's purpose and mission – and all of the opportunities and possibilities that lie ahead for VCHS.

We’re in the process of solidifying a vision and the roadmap to get there, planning with human minds and hands but more importantly asking God to reveal His vision for VCHS over the next 4 years – 2025 – the ¼ century mark – what we want to see and do for our current 9th, 10th and 11th grade students and for next year’s freshmen class – the Class of 2025.

Without jumping too far ahead, we’re doing a deep dive analyzing who we are today – what’s working well, what needs to improve, and what amazing opportunities lie around the corner. Thank you for taking time to complete alumni, faculty, parent, and student surveys. We’re currently pouring over all of that rich feedback, and this month, we will begin conducting small focus groups with alumni, faculty, parents, students, and key partners, to learn even more.

I’m grateful to work with such a talented strategic planning team: Bizzy Barry (board), Kevin Bohren (board, alumni parent), Erin Boselli (board, parent, alumni parent), Steve Gamble (VCHS friend), John Horan-Kates (alumni parent, VCHS founder, facilitator), Katie Rothenberg (parent), Larkin Smith ’15 (alumna), Robert Veitch (parent), and Barb Wilson (faculty, parent, alumni parent). Pray with us that our vision would expand even further and be aligned with God’s vision for VCHS – a steely-resolved belief that He can do anything, far more than we can ever imagine or guess or request in our wildest dreams!

A quote from senior lead, Langley Cerovich,
“This show embodies the heart of kids who have suffered under terrible conditions. We face challenges that seem impossible to overcome, but the willpower we bring to the stage is what helps us win. Everyone has such amazing stage presence and power as we become real Newsies!” Well said Langley.

Students Shoulder to Shoulder is a locally-based non-profit that gives students the opportunity to learn about ethical leadership from inspiring nonprofit leaders. Students discover the complexity of global challenges while immersed in the communities they serve, working with children and focused on the environment.

SStS has a bold purpose – to grow a global network of ethical leaders. This summer, SStS is offering 9 global, domestic, and Colorado based trips. There is also a Colorado trip based in Boulder in which students will work with Thorne Nature Experience connecting environmental stewardship and a youth camp program. VCHS students can apply for this opportunity and join other SStS member school students.
