May 4, 2023

Hello Steve, Enjoy our Saints News!
HEAD OF SCHOOL MUSING

May 1st was National College Decision Day, a collective deadline and finish line for our college-bound Seniors. With 47 members of the Class of 2023, this is one of VCHS’ largest graduating classes. I’m equally proud of those making plans to head off to college next school year as well as a few who will take a gap year, begin a career and serve our country through the U.S. military.

Our Seniors combined college acceptance list, and their final college decisions, are impressive! Later this month at events like the Honors Assembly and Graduation, we will highlight each Senior’s plans for the 2023-24 school year. Here are a few college highlights:

  • 16 states, The District of Columbia, and Canada are geographic destinations
  • 70% will be out-of-state
  • After Colorado, the 2nd hottest state is California
  • With intended college majors and career goals, more than 50% will pursue STEM (engineering, computer science, health science, environmental science, and aviation)

Huge thanks go to Adina Petersmeyer, our Director of College Counseling, for all of her hard work with the Class of 2023! In the next few weeks, we will share more about their merit scholarships and the total amount of dollars they will receive for all of their efforts and talents.

Way to go Class of 2023! Let’s go Saints!

COUNSELOR'S CORNER

Washington University

St. Louis, Missouri

Embry Riddle Aeronautical University

Prescott, Arizona

Adina Petersmeyer, Director of College and Career Counseling, has visited college campuses and networked with industry colleagues over the past five weeks. She started her tour with a Counselor Fly In event in Flagstaff at Northern Arizona University (NAU). She found NAU to have a strong sense of community and impressive specialty degree programs in Engineering, Nursing, Forestry and a great WUE out-of-state option for our students. She then traveled to Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in Prescott and was amazed to learn more about their world-renowned reputation in Cybersecurity, Computer Programming, Professional Flight, and ROTC.

Mrs. Petersmeyer then pivoted to attend a CESA College Counseling Institute in St. Louis. She connected with College Counselors at Christian schools from all over the country and visited four college campuses: Washington University, St. Louis University, Maryville University, and Missouri Baptist. Looking ahead, she will be back at Colorado School of Mines as she is a member of their Counselor Advisory Board.

Mrs. Petersmeyer’s said, “As I tell all our VCHS students, once you step foot on a college campus, you will quickly get a feeling about the school and this is true for me as well. When I visited Embry Riddle, I could envision how some of our students will feel right at home with like-minded peers. Since my visit, a junior visited and confirmed that he ‘loved’ the school. I’m grateful for the opportunity to travel to colleges and universities and build strong relationships with so many college admission officers.”
