Greetings! Please enjoy our Saints News!

HEAD OF SCHOOL MUSING

We’re off to a terrific start with the school year and excited for the All School Retreat next week! I haven’t yet had a chance to share exciting news about how our Saints performed on their AP and PLTW exams as we received the results in July.

VCHS offers 16 AP courses, many of which are required, meaning they’re part of the core curriculum for every student beginning in 10th grade. We value access to AP courses for all students and that is why this year’s pass rate percentage (3 or higher) is so astounding.

With 248 exams administered, our students had an 81% pass rate, the highest percent that I can recall. Of those students, 23 were named AP Scholars with Distinction (4.17 average) and 44 were named AP Scholars (3.75 average). Think about all that college credit and college tuition savings. Hats off also go to our teachers!

We are also a Project Lead the Way (PLTW) school offering two pathways, Engineering and Biomedical Science. PLTW courses are hands-on, project-based and develop the skills needed for real-world problem solving especially with STEM college majors and careers. The PLTW exams involve real-world scenarios deepening critical thinking skills.

Our PLTW courses include Introduction to Engineering, Principles of Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, and Human Body Systems. With PLTW exams, we had an impressive 100% pass rate, and students earned college credit through the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs!

Much like AP exams with their 1-5 scale, PLTW has Distinguished (5), Accomplished (4), and Practiced (3). Distinguished and Accomplished student recognition looked as follows: Introduction to Engineering (88%), Principles of Engineering (100%), and Human Body Systems (86%).

Way to go, Saints!

BRAVOS

Congratulations to Annie Becker ’26 on her acceptance to and attendance at the 2025 Summer Science Program, a rigorous five-week college level residential advance research program in astrophysics sponsored by MIT, Caltech, & Harvey Mudd. At the conclusion of the program, Annie’s professors and teaching assistants honored her with the “Exemplary Student” award.

Utilizing college planetariums and telescopes, participants from around the world were assigned a specific asteroid to observe, image, and orbitally determine to predict the asteroid’s trajectory and probability of intercepting Earth. At completion of the program, the research reports, including the data collected, calculated, and analyzed by the students was provided to the Minor Planet Center (operating under The International Astronomical Union) to aid in appropriate asteroid tracking and future positional calculations to ensure Earth safety and preservation.

Thank you, Annie, for your outstanding representation of VCHS!
