Hello Steve, Enjoy our Saints News!
HEAD OF SCHOOL MUSING

Doing college visits as a dad with my three kiddos, I was often amazed at the number of clubs some of the colleges and universities had. University of Virginia, at the time, was exceptional. Even more, I was particularly impressed with clubs that were student-initiated and student-led around interests, and even passions.

At VCHS, we follow the same practice. Some clubs from a few years ago have been mothballed – Unicycle and Global Issues Network, but others have stood the test of time. I’m happy to say that we launched five new clubs this year – Friday Grill, Hispanic Leadership & Culture, Hype Squad, Table Tennis, and Youth Volunteer Corp. It’s never too late to start a new club. There are only two simple requirements for students – 1) find an adult club advisor, and 2) receive approval from Ms. Larson.

Clubs are NOT extra-curricular but rather co-curricular (complementing our school’s fundamental curriculum). Clubs are a great place for students to stretch and grow as we provide opportunities for them to live out our mission – to find purpose, to serve, and to lead. If you’re reading this as a current VCHS parent, encourage your student to plug in to one of our existing clubs or consider starting a new one.

CONGRATS TO JULIET STUDNESS '24

FOR HER SUCCESS IN TRAPSHOOTING

Juliet took the 1st Place Junior Overall High Award at the Colorado State Trapshooting Championships, as well as 1st Place Overall in D Class at Southwest Regionals this summer.

Trapshooting involves split-second timing, accuracy and skill. Competitors repeatedly aim and fire a shotgun to break a 4-inch clay disc moving at a speed of 42mph. The High Overall Award is given to the athlete that breaks the most targets in 3 categories over the duration of the tournament.

Good luck to Juliet as she makes a run for the All American Team with the first tournament in Nevada October 26th.

Softball

Although Monday's game against Eagle Valley High School did not turn up a win for Battle Mountain's inaugural softball team, it was full of success! As reported in interviews of a few VCHS players, the team is learning the game, executing great plays and looking forward to "blossom the program". Good luck to our Lady Saints and the BMHS team as they take on Meeker on Friday!
