We’ve been working hard to create an exciting future for, and beyond, the 2020-21 school year. How? We’ve decided to make a major technology investment in our classrooms to accelerate our ‘cutting-edge’ momentum. Why? We believe so strongly in learning in community and the highly relational nature of teaching and learning. We will do whatever it takes to ensure our students and teachers can be together whether on campus, at home, or anywhere.
In late June, I communicated our reopening plan and what we dubbed Anyone, Anytime, Anywhere education. At that time, we chose Swivl/I-pad/Zoom technology to provide each classroom with a video conferencing solution. In mid-July, I watched a video my friend sent me and I was gobsmacked watching students at home raising their hands and teachers at school calling on them. It was a lightbulb moment for me. I watched it multiple times, and I wanted more for our students and teachers – the best technology to facilitate human connection that’s such an integral part of school. And we will soon unveil a new core technology for this classroom video conferencing solution – the DTEN. To round out a Hi-Tech Classroom, there are other complementary components including cameras, microphones, monitors, increased Internet bandwidth, stands, and cabling. It’s coming to VCHS soon.
Now we need your help. Last school year we had huge success and record participation with our 1st and 10 campaign supporting The All Saints Fund. This school year, our parent campaign – 5 Days/5 Reasons will support the Anyone, Anytime, Anywhere Fund ensuring our 17 classrooms have all of the technology they need for a rich learning environment for students on campus or students ‘anywhere.’ This investment is necessary for this COVID-19 school year, but more importantly, it’s an investment in VCHS’ future – a direction where the best schools are headed.
Next week you’ll learn more about 5 Days/5 Reasons that will launch on September 28th and conclude on October 2nd. Join us at this exciting time as we create a bright future for VCHS teachers and students.
Warm Regards,
Steve O'Neil
