I resonate with Students Shoulder-to-Shoulder’s mission – to inspire and support generations of ethical leaders, especially as their work supports our mission – “for lives of purpose, service, and leadership.” For us at VCHS, our Christian mission compels us to practice ‘love your neighbor,’ care for creation, and moral/ethical leadership rooted in Holy Scripture.
This past summer, I was thrilled to have nine VCHS community members participate in one of Students Shoulder-to-Shoulder’s summer programs, including:
Carlos Chavez – Panama (Education & Environment)
Ms. Kasey Desmond – Panama (Education & Environment)
Mrs. Andrea Justkaitis – Peru (Conservation & Development)
Jeep Meynier – San Diego-Mexico Border (Immigration)
Angel Palacio – Costa Rica (Sea Turtle Conservation)
Daisy Palacio – Panama (Education & Environment)
Jesus Palacio – Costa Rica (Sea Turtle Conservation)
Jorge Sinaloa – Dartmouth (Sustainable Living)
Juliet Studness – New Orleans (Environmental Science)
These students and teachers are also looking forward to attending and participating in the annual Ethical Leadership Forum that will be held next month in Vail.
With this week’s chapel, Seniors Daisy, Carlos, and Angel shared their summer overseas stories, including the impact their experiences had on their worldviews and lives. For VCHS students, it’s a perfect time to begin thinking about Summer 2023 plans, especially opportunities like service-learning and mission trips – experiences that stretch mind, body, and spirit for lives of purpose, service, and leadership.
