I want to put a plug in for the upcoming Alpha Film Series run by one of our Theology teachers, Scott Leonard. Parents, if you haven’t done Alpha, I’d encourage you to consider this 4-week opportunity starting on Monday, September 14th.
Denae and I first encountered Alpha in the mid-90s when we were part of Christ Church Denver. Later, with my brother and his family living in London and attending Holy Trinity Brompton, the church out of which Alpha was founded, we found ourselves reconnected with Alpha again. More recently, my sister-in-law – a huge Alpha fan – became the Executive Director for Alpha’s Mid-Atlantic region and separately Scott approached me about offering Alpha at VCHS. What was God trying to say to me?
What I love about Alpha is that it’s designed for everyone, regardless of where they are on the spiritual spectrum – Christian faith, no Christian faith, atheist, agnostic, other religions, etc. The films and conversations are non-denominational and also endorsed by the Catholic church. Alpha’s motto is UNITY – “what unites us is greater than what divides us.” We need more of that now than ever. Alpha helps everyone more deeply explore life’s biggest and thorniest spiritual questions and find answers in an inclusive, non-judgmental context.
Dip your toe in the water and try one session or join for all four. Bring a friend. And reach out to Scott by email at

Warm Regards,
Steve O'Neil
