I’m not a photographer, but I do like this iPhone photo I recently took, especially the cross silhouetted against our stone monument. While I sat at the Highway 6 stoplight getting ready to take my left-hand turn, I couldn’t help but be captivated by that image, and its timing. I’m proud we have a similar cross stitched on our athletes’ uniforms, on campus walls, and on the back of our busses, reminding us of our school’s commitment to Jesus Christ.
It’s funny how these types of divine encounters are oftentimes missed, at least by me. But on that day, I noticed. During this Thanksgiving season, I want to have those same eyes to take note of the Divine in things that I too easily take for granted – my wife Denae, my family and friends, VCHS, clean water and food, housing and the Vail Valley, good health and freedom, even my dog Bella, and more importantly, the One who gave us life through the cross.
Yes, this musing could have waited until Maundy Thursday or Good Friday, but then I would have missed an opportunity to share my heart full of thanksgiving for the cross and that recent Divine reminder. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
