This school year, I'll be highlighting VCHS's greatest asset: its people. More importantly, I want to share with you what makes them tick - their purpose, their goals, their aims, their calling.

“You feel mighty free and easy and comfortable on a raft.” Like Huck Finn, Ms. Moriarty is comfortable in the water, on the water or “on a raft.” Born and raised in Springfield, Massachusetts, she spent summers at Hyannis Port swimming, sailing, surfing, and waterskiing.
High school at Holyoke Catholic was also an important part of her upbringing. Ms. Moriarty was the epitome of student-athlete: NHS, Swim Captain, Tennis and Ski Team. She carved her turns at Mt. Tom, with an elevation barely cresting 1200’. In classes, she was inspired by her Senior English teacher, Sister Marlene, who made the content relevant and who held her students to a high standard.
After high school, Ms. Moriarty left the Northeast and its winters and headed to Florida where she attended and graduated from Rollins College. There she swam and waterskied for the Tars. In college, she already knew teaching was her calling. Running in the family gene pool, her mother was a teacher and Ms. Moriarty remembers spending time in her classroom and helping grade papers. After Rollins, she received another degree from Rhode Island College.
With the exception of a few years off here and there to support family members with health challenges, Ms. Moriarty has taught on Cape Cod, in Florida and here in the Vail Valley. At Vail Christian, she teaches our Freshmen AP Human Geography course and loves that every day is different and filled with new challenges and insights – “the most rewarding job a person could have.” As to VCHS specifically, she believes the sense of community is a unique quality to our school, particularly in how faculty mentor students and “know them as people.”
Ms. Moriarty moved to the Vail Valley in the mid-1990s following her sister who had already landed here. She continues to be active with all things outdoors, especially hiking and waterskiing or wakeboarding outside Kremmling. Her favorite hike follows a path from Eagle-Vail, up Stone Creek and arriving at Beaver Creek.
Aside from Vail Christian, Ms. Moriarty also works with Beaver Creek Resort and tutors with Sandra Burner’s after-school Student Success Center. She has two girls, Riley (11) and Keagan (10), and a Labradoodle service dog who helps Riley with her Type 1 Diabetes. When you’re out eating and Ms. Moriarty is too, you more than likely will find her at one of her favorite restaurants, Terra Bistro or Sato, dreaming of her next adventure “on a raft.”
Ms. Moriarty, lives of purpose…

This Saturday at Kent Denver, VCHS will be competing in its first VEX Robotics competition. Three teams have built and programed robots to compete in this year's competition called Turning Point. The game consists of challenges ranging from flipping and lifting discs onto posts, firing balls at flags, and fighting to be "king of the hill". The competition has both autonomous and driver based components. Our senior team is made up of Madison Ritsch, Jose Ascencio, Sam Tellor, PG Nkalang'ango, Keaton Brausch, and Jonathon Daly. Our all-girls team is made up of Mollie Ritsch, Izzy Richie, Colleen Farrell, Talia Tyler, and Camryn McGrath. Our third team is made up of Ethan Elzinga, Andrew Stojkovich, and Ella Page.

ABOUT THE CHALLENGE
A generous donor has agreed to match all gifts to the All Saints Fund up to $100,000. That means
your gift will be doubled before March 15, 2019!
This is the best time to make a difference in the life of a student who wants a high-quality education in a loving, caring environment. Give now and your dollars will go further!
You may also choose to designate your support to Academics/STEM, Fine Arts, Tuition Assistance or Athletics. Please indicate how you would like your gift allocated. We would be happy to discuss the many giving opportunities with you.
When you give to Vail Christian High School, you are responsible for being a game changer.
