Dear Saint Families,
The time is here! I know everyone is looking forward to the Christmas break! While Advent begins to come to a close, I hope that you have found time to prepare your hearts to receive Jesus in a new way this Advent season. This is a time of sharing in faith, hope and most of all love.
“Beloved, let us love one another, because love is from God; everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, for God is love. God’s love was revealed among us in this way; God sent his only Son into the world so that we might live through him. In this is love, not that we loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the atoning sacrifice for our sins. Beloved, since God loved us so much, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; if we love one another, God lives in us, his love is perfected in us.” 1 John 4: 7-12!
Be not afraid… to love as Christ loves! I wish you all a blessed Christmas!
In Him we Trust,

Art Corner: A Letter from Mrs. Stieber
Our Saints artists have been busy! If your student has been participating in morning or after-school art…please read this message from Mrs. Stieber…
Dear Parents of Merit Rodeo and Go Texan Art Students, the art room has been a buzz of creativity this Advent season! Some of our students need a few more days to work on their artwork, so I have extended judging until after Christmas to give them a little more time to get “show ready”.
I want students in 2
nd
Grade – Middle School to continue to attend morning or after-school art when we return from break on
Thursday, 1/03/19 and Friday, 1/04/19
at
7:20-7:55 a.m. and/or 3:15– 4:30 p.m
. (Note: I have afternoon carpool both days, so students should drop their backpacks and meet me in the GSC until 3:30 and we will walk together to the art room. I will escort all students to carpool at 4:30 p.m. I will personally let your student know if finished.) On
Monday, 1/7/19
, Middle School students MAY attend morning art, but it will not be offered for Elementary students.
Finalists and Runners-Up will be announced on Monday morning, 01/07/19, for both Elementary and Middle School. If your child’s artwork is selected, then you will receive an updated parent letter with additional information and studio times.
Finalists’ art will be entered in the private school division of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Student Art Contest scheduled for
January 14
(this event is for art teachers only). Runners-Up will be featured in StJPII’s “Go Texan” art show in late February. However, it is very important that Runners-Up continue to attend studio art to get show ready just in case! Last year, 3 Runners-Up actually made the HLSR Art Contest for various reasons! I will retain everyone’s artwork until after our “Go Texan” show.
Stay tuned for future winner announcements after Mass and in
Saints Weekly.
If you have any questions, please contact me at:
[email protected]
. Sincerely, Mrs. Stieber

Did you know.... in the beginning, StJPII had a Christmas program that encompassed the entire school. Where every child had a part. Mrs. Edna Frazier, the school's first Religion Coordinator, started the tradition. As the years went on and StJPII became larger, the Christmas program morphed from the entire school to a limited number of students. 23 years ago, the kindergarten teachers, Mrs. Layfield, Mrs. Mondelli and Mrs. Salama asked former principal, Mrs. Clarisse Franke for permission to have a mini Kindergarten Christmas program. Initially she said no, because she thought the students would have stage fright, however, with the guidance of her Kindergarten team she was convinced and the Christmas performance we know of today was born. The first Kindergarten program was held in St. Jude Hall. The first camels were made out of butcher paper designed by Mrs. Salama. Eventually, Mrs. Condara and Mrs. May helped with costume design. Today, our Kindergarten Christmas program is now a full production in the GSC led by Mrs. McCurry. Click on the video below to see a portion of today's performance.
