April 10, 2018

Dear St. John Paul II Families,

Everything is going very well here on campus as we continue with our testing. Thank you for your support, especially this week. It truly does make a big positive difference and make things go more smoothly when the children show up on time, well-rested, and with a healthy breakfast. I look forward to opening up the campus once testing is complete.

Today's devotion in my book Jesus Calling states, "Trust Me in every detail of your life. Nothing is random in My kingdom. Everything that happens fits into a pattern for good, to those who love me." Even though we will not celebrate Mass as a school community this week on Friday, I encourage you to remain faithful and focus on choosing joy, as school chaplain Fr. Eammon taught us last week. As we continue with this fourth quarter, it is so important for us to remember that God is in control and that the Lord wants us to find the good in every situation, always spreading Christ's love. Speaking of JOY, I'm looking forward to a very joyful Crawfish Boil this Friday...rain or shine...we will have a wonderful time together!

In Him,
P.S. Be on the lookout for a special email tomorrow with a link to the 2017-2018 Parent Survey, which will be open from April 11-18. Thank you in advance for taking the time to provide the school with your feedback!
We have over 800 tickets sold! We are now SOLD OUT!
This is going to be our biggest and best Saints @ Sunset Crawfish Boil yet! If you bought tickets for Friday, stay tuned for an email later this week confirming all the details. In the meantime, here's what you need to know:

  • The Crawfish Boil is on! We are busy making a Rainy Day plan just in case. Just know, you will still have an amazing time rain or shine.

  • NEW! This year, we have secured parking in Barbara Bush Elementary school's parking lot! If you're looking for parking this is a really good option.
  • The west side of our parking lot will be blocked off on Thursday evening through Friday.
  • Friday afternoon, carpool will exit the parking lot using the middle lane (depending on the rainy day).
  • Pick up your meal tickets from the Registration table before 7:00 p.m.
  • We recommend that your family bring your own tailgate-chairs or a picnic blanket for overflow seating on the parking lot or field.

  • We still need volunteers! A few areas that need support include the Beverage Garden, Registration table, and FITS table. Please consider volunteering for a short shift. Click on the button below to sign-up! This is a great way to meet new StJPII families.
  • We also need to borrow coolers! Please labels your cooler(s) and drop them off at the front office.

Spring Annual Fund Reminder
If you have already made your Annual Fund gift to the school, thank you! Even with the incredible success of our 30th Anniversary Gala, we are halfway to our Annual Fund goal of $500,000, and we need your help as a devoted member of our community! As always, we strive for full participation from our families in Annual Fund giving.  We know that many families may not be able to give this year; therefore, we ask those that are able to make contributions to prayerfully consider increasing their gift. If you have not yet made your gift, please consider supporting our shared mission. Every donation, no matter how small, truly does make a difference in the education of our students. To make your gift, you may send a check to the front office in the envelope that is being sent home today, or go online to  www.jp2.org/give . Thank you.
Middle School News
Middle School Spanish Pilot Program
Middle School Spanish will be piloting an exciting new resource in hopes of improving our ability to serve and meet the various needs of our students in Spanish class.

Vista Higher Learning is a publisher exclusively focused on world languages. It offers programs for secondary and higher education, from introductory to advanced. This program focuses on outcomes and getting students to develop proficiency in communication. It promotes a digital learning environment with integrated content, resources, and tools to engage students and support language learning.
We are confident this program will provide ample opportunities for children to explore the Spanish language and culture. Each student will have a Vista Higher Learning account and must enroll in an active course to gain access to the materials on the Supersite.

Thank you for your wonderful support.

¡Muchas Gracias!

Iowa and CogAT Testing
Please note that our campus will be closed to outside visitors all day April 9-20 due to testing. This means that volunteer activities and birthday lunches will need to be rescheduled. Visitiors will only be permitted past the front office for Stations of the Cross (4/19) and All School Mass (4/20). Thank you for your cooperation and helping us maintain a quiet testing environment.
Stations of the Cross
Stations of the Cross has been rescheduled for Thursday, April 19 at 8:30 a.m. in the GSC. Families are invited to attend; however, we are kindly asking parents to not linger since the campus will be closed for testing.
Optional Casual Uniform Orders for Next Year
Now is the time to order optional casual uniforms for next year, which include sweatshirts and polos. Orders will only be accepted online through our website. You must place your order by May 1. We are retiring the 30th anniversary spirit shirts. You may wear them next year, but you may want the NEW burgundy StJPII spirit shirt debuting at our Meet and Greet in August. Order yours now so you can show your school spirit. All orders will be available for pickup during Meet and Greet in August. Please keep a copy of your receipt. We will have a limited number of uniforms available on Meet and Greet Day. If you order on Meet and Greet day, they will be delivered to your student in late September. We will not have another time to order this school year...so don't delay!
Tuition Raffle
The final family commitment fundraiser for the 2017/18 school year is the Tuition Raffle. The raffle prize is  one free year of tuition for the oldest child in your family for the 2018/19 school year! The drawing will be held on  Friday, April 20 after Mass. Tuition raffle tickets are sold only to StJPII families at a price of $25.00 each. Your tuition raffle purchase is credited dollar for dollar towards your 2017/18 family commitment, so this is more fun than just paying off that balance! A statement of your family commitment account has been sent home in your Tuesday folder.

Raffle tickets are available by clicking on the “  Tuition Raffle Ticket  ” button on the home page of the school website. Please print and complete as many tickets as you need, and turn your tickets and payment in to the school office in an envelope labeled “Tuition Raffle”. Please make your checks payable to StJPII and write your family ID number on your check.   In order to properly account for family commitment, raffle tickets must be received in the office b y 3:30 p.m. this Friday, April 13 .    No exceptions will be made.
A REQUEST FROM THE BUSINESS OFFICE: Please cut your tickets into single tickets and do not staple tickets together. Also, it would be very helpful if you would write your tuition raffle payment for the complete amount of your family commitment balance due – even if it is not an amount that is divisible by $25.00. For instance, if your balance is $105.75, you could write your check for that exact amount and include four raffle tickets. This will clear your account balance and save you from having to send the final amount in a separate check.    Thank you for your help!
