Whoever you are, wherever you are on life's journey,
YOU are welcome at Salem Church !
We are planning on returning to worship in the Salem Sanctuary soon. This coming Sunday, June 6th, the Sanctuary will be open to view live stream worship via Zoom on the Sanctuary television screens. We will be celebrating Holy Communion - single serving communion cups and wafers will be available as you enter the Sanctuary. (Please place empty Communion cups in the trash, by the door, as you exit.) We will also have an offering plate near the entrance as well.

Here are some ground rules:
  • Everyone MUST wear a mask, vaccinated or not.
  • If you have been or if you think you have been exposed to COViD-19 or have any symptoms of COViD-19, please do not attend in person and join us safely on Zoom.
  • Please arrive at least 10 minutes early so the Ushers have enough time to seat everyone safely.
  • Please use ONLY the front, main Sanctuary entrance of the Church off of Oakland Street.
  • An usher will seat you with your family members.
  • Please remember to keep social distancing standards while in the Sanctuary and refrain from contact with other members.
  • At the close of the worship service, please remain seated until the ushers escort you toward the exit.
  • The restroom in the office hallway will be available for use.
  • The rest of the building will remain closed - including the nursery. You will have access to the restroom in the office hallway via the Gathering Room.
  • We will have some social time following the service outside, and there you may make contact if you are comfortable.
  • If you are not comfortable with being in the sanctuary, please join us on Zoom.
Pastor Larsen will still be live streaming the service remotely until we have the ability to live stream effectively from the Sanctuary, so as to include all of those who are currently more comfortable with the virtual service. We have taken appropriate safety precautions to make sure that you are safe and that the church is accessible and clean for your arrival for worship. We are hoping to return fully, with live stream capabilities, by July 4th. Please keep us in prayer as your Staff and Leadership Team are trying their best to make this work and work well.

Beloved Friends of Salem! Greetings in the name of Jesus Christ!

Have you ever hosted a party? Any kind of a gathering for family or friends... or family AND friends! Imagine this: what if Jesus came to you and asked, "Hey, buddy, would you please throw a party in my name? Would you be my host?"

What would your response be? I hope it would be a resounding "YES!" I mean, how many times would you actually get this opportunity to throw open the doors for Jesus? The next question is, what would you do, as a host, to make this gathering different? Would it BE different?

I think about this all the time. Pastor's get to host parties in Jesus' name every Sunday. It's not an easy task to get right 100% of the time. Heck, I'll bet that batting .500 for positive results is acceptable to God, at the very least. But this is what it is like for me to lead folx into a worship - it's a celebration in the name of Jesus. I have to strive to get it right and I know I often miss the mark. Shifting to a live stream platform shows WAY too many mistakes in my humble opinion! Ha ha!

It is more than just hosting, however. When I lead a worship I tend to think deeply about the love Jesus has for me and how I can best show others, describe it to others, and live it out for others through personal and other shared stories, actions, and more. So, that leaves Sunday morning worship a large challenge to accommodate such a request from the Divine Son to host, AND to get it right most of the time.

The thing is, we all have been asked to host. As folx who have embraced a life of following Jesus at Salem you, too, have made a covenant. Jesus has asked you, too, to host in his name.

Knowing this ups the ante for needing an authentic presence as others who have been invited may be desperate to feel that genuine love that they may have been missing for an age or more. What can you do on Sunday mornings to roll out the proverbial red carpet for guests of Jesus Christ - our guests at Salem? For Jesus has asked us to host a celebration in his name... and that's the command Jesus gives us.

As Salem continues to search and soon call its next settled pastor, I hope the imagery of being a gracious host in the name of Jesus is something that you all would think about more. More than 95% of new church membership comes from extending the invitation from members to prospective members. It's worth your investment of time, talent, and treasure to discover ways in which your hosting will benefit the life of Salem.

I love you all,

Pastor Greg

Another big congrats to Officer of the Year, Sam Bradley!!

Ofc. Bradley is among the top in our patrol division for arrests, narcotics confiscations, & weapons recoveries. Sam frequently volunteers for additional duties & responsibilities, including being a member of the Field Training Cadre, Rapid Response Unit, & the Accident Investigation Team. He mentors other officers and strives to motivate himself and others by always seeking to better himself and the Department. Officer Bradley is one of a few officers that make others better at their job when he is around, always trying to fulfill a vision of the Department being among the best agencies in the county.

Salem Church is set up to receive offerings thru
Zelle mobile application!
Here's How Zelle® Works
It's fast, safe and easy. Ready to start sending and receiving with Zelle?

STEP 1: Access Zelle. Find Zelle in the mobile banking app of our partners. If you already have your banking app on your phone, there's no download necessary. If your bank or credit union doesn't offer Zelle yet, just download the Zelle app to get started.
STEP 2: Pick a person to pay. Once you enroll, all you need to send money with Zelle is the preferred email address or mobile number of the trusted recipient. Salem UCC Church’s email address is: uccsalem@yahoo.com
STEP 3: Choose the amount to send. Enter the amount you want to send. If your recipient is already enrolled with Zelle, the money will go directly into their bank account, typically in minutes. If they aren’t enrolled yet, they will get a notification explaining how to receive the money simply and quickly.
