Beloved,

We are nearly through the whole of the Holy Week. We've broken bread, felt the betrayal of a friendship, and now walk precariously with Jesus as he bears the cross to Calvary. But do we, really?

What I mean is, are we willing to go the extra mile with Jesus? To sacrifice the comforts of living for a better life for others?

Throughout Lent we are called to "empty ourselves" - create space within us that allows Spirit to enter and, prayerfully, experience transformation. That is, after all, one of the great purposes of gathering together as a congregation. Again, however, are we willing to create that space? Are we willing... or, better yet, do we actually want to experience that transformation?

The challenges of this life are easy compared to the challenges God calls us to through Jesus Christ - to take up the cross, to sacrifice the self for the benefit of others. To love as God loves us.

Easter is new life. Resurrection. We're eager to see this in ourselves yet often equate this annual phenomenon to our own, eventual deaths, imagining a world on the other side of this one where everything is pure, whole, healed... peaceful. Jesus was not crucified for this. Jesus was crucified for trying to bring about peace in his own here and now. It wasn't about trying to get :there" as much as it was about trying to live better "here."

I call this creating heaven here on earth.

It's what I love about spring, as winter struggles to let go and life around us awakens new after being dormant for what seems months on end. Why, just now I looked out the window just now to see a literal flurry of cold, breezy activity which ended with the sun being called out from behind the clouds to melt what fell momentarily. What a lovely scene - that struggle between winter and spring.

It is our struggle, too. The struggle to let go of that which holds us spiritually dormant, for we are called to spring life up from the ground into all this creation.

Resurrection is about this... in the here and now. Bringing new life to what lies around us today.

I pray this message finds you well and preparing for not just another Easter, but preparing for a personal resurrection. One that experiences new life by giving its life to others. May it be so.

I love you all.

Food Drive
Friday, April 9 from 6-7PM
We are moving the monthly food drive for Neighborhood House to the second Friday of the month for April. Although the start time says 6pm, if it is a good weather day, I will be there at 530 with a picnic dinner. Please feel free to join me for some fellowship in the parking lot! FYI, Neighborhood House has refrigeration facilities if you wish to bring perishable items. Also, they appreciate paper and sanitary items, since their clients cannot purchase those items with food stamps.

We will be accepting donations for the Foster Closet Mission Project during the Food Drive!!!
