Pioneer Terrace Composting

The first Salem Housing Authority location in Salem, Pioneer Terrace, is beginning their composting journey! On Monday, March 11, Waste Reduction Coordinator, Janelle Rolke, attended the Pioneer Terrace and Bertram Tenant Organization monthly meeting to share this new program and opportunity. Prior to this meeting, the Housing Authority worked with Black Earth Compost to set up an account for weekly organic pickup at this location.

The goal is to spread the word to Pioneer Terrace residents that they can now divert food waste from the dumpsters and direct it instead to the 64 gallon compost bins – allowing Black Earth to turn that waste into nutrient-rich soil!

There were so many residents in attendance who are thrilled to start composting! Great work, Salem Housing Authority and Pioneer Terrace residents!
